Written by Rowonna McNeely – It’s always fun to hear the innocence of a child and how quickly they can get you in trouble with that innocence.
A few days ago, after dance practice, we pulled into a drive through to order dinner. Aaron placed our order and we pulled up to the window to wait for our food.

Kiera pointed over to the hotel across the parking lot from us. “There’s where you go in the summer, Mom.” She stated matter-of-factly.
I looked to the hotel and back to Aaron. He raised his eyebrows at me, but I could see he was trying to hide a smile.
“That’s where you go in the summer, Mom?” He asked me in a teasing tone.
I laughed but was racking my brain as to when my child saw me go into that hotel. Thankfully, I quickly remembered.
“That’s where I went for a meeting… isn’t that right, baby?” I asked Kiera. No sooner are the words out of my mouth, before I realized I’d made it sound even worse.
Aaron lost it at this point and busted out laughing. I playfully glared in his direction while he got his laughter under control. “A meeting?” He managed to ask between laughter. “Oh, really?”
I rolled my eyes at him, before turning to face Kiera and asking “Didn’t y’all come to pick me up from the meeting? You and Daddy?” I made sure to stress the word ‘and.’
“Yes. Daddy and I waited for you in the truck.” She continued on, oblivious to the humor of the situation.
I shot a triumphant look at Aaron as he continued to smirk at me.  Thankfully, our food arrived at that moment. With my tendency to insert foot in mouth and Kiera’s honest innocence, I can only imagine how I could have made it worse.
Kiera is starting to learn about sarcasm and when to put it in a conversation to make us laugh but thankfully, she still has her innocence.
And by the way, I’m not the only one who puts their foot in their mouth. My mom texted Aaron a couple of days ago to let him know what Kiera had told her. “My Daddy said he had a lot of girls but he chose Mommy.”
Mmhmm. Who’s foot is in their mouth now?
