Written by Rowonna McNeely – “Woah!” Kiera squealed as she rolled into the kitchen on her new roller skates. I turned in time to see her grab on to the freezer to keep from falling. I smothered a smile as I took in her appearance. She was dressed in a lime green t-shirt that went past her knees, strapped on her head was a unicorn bicycle helmet, and last but not least were her skates.

“Are you ok?” I asked.

“That scared me!” She exclaimed. “My future passed before my eyes!!”

I covered my smile quickly before she noticed. I love how much she is learning and it’s just too adorable when she gets words mixed up.

Several mornings ago, we were getting ready for school and work. Aaron had brought Kiera a glass of juice into our bedroom while I fixed her hair. As were getting ready to walk out the door, Aaron asked, “Kiera, did you not drink any of your juice?”

Kiera responded sassily, “I exhume since it is not milk, I did not want it.”

She is beginning to use her humor and sarcasm a little more frequently every day.  I have no idea where she gets the sarcasm from… but, moving on….

One Friday morning, I was blow-drying her hair. Aaron came in, lay on the bed and begin to quiz her on her spelling words.

“Spell the word here.” He said loudly to be heard over the blow dryer.

Kiera turned to face him with a sly grin on her face. “What?” She asked. “I can’t HEAR you.”

Aaron and I busted into laughter as she smiled gleefully. After recovering, Aaron asked her again, “Ok, goofball. Spell here.”

Once again, she turned to face him and said loudly, “What? I can’t HEAR you.”

Before either of us could remark, she continued on drawing out the last word, “Maybe you should come over HERE.”

Well. At least she is learning how to use the words in a sentence. Oh, and by the way, she did pass her spelling test with flying colors.
