Leo Shields, 85, of Santa Anna, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Songbird Lodge Nursing Home in Brownwood. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Santa Anna Cemetery Pavilion in Santa Anna. Burial will be in the Santa Anna Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
Leo Thomas Shields was born March 12, 1931 in Whon to Fred Shields and Maude French Shields. He grew up in the Coleman County and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On August 22, 1955, Leo married Wanda Louise Keeney in Lovington, New Mexico. Leo worked as a driller in the oil fields for Tri-J Drilling, Halliburton and Hope.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Louise Shields of Santa Anna; one daughter, Gwendolyn Sue Walters and husband, Charlie, of Early; two sons, Thomas Ray Shields of Santa Anna, Jimmy Leon Shields and wife, Chaz of Brownwood; two sisters, Evelyn Wright, Leona Frazee; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Leo was also preceded in death by two sons, Freddie Eugene Shields, Billie Joe Shields; four brothers, Chester Shields, Robert Shields, Hollis Shields, Myrl Shields and two sisters, Edith Gilbert and Mary Lonell Thate.
