WillettFuneral services for Lena Mae Holland Willett, age 91, of Brownwood, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 2010, at the Davis Morris Funeral Home Chapel, with Bill Slaymaker officiating.  Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 2, at the funeral home.

Lena Mae was born July 29, 1919, in Jordan Springs, Texas, to William Pikney Perkins and Lottie Marie Jones Perkins.  She attended Brown County schools and graduated from Howard Payne University in 1956 with a Masters Degree.  She then spent 40 years working for the development of future productive citizens, first as a professional administrator with Girl Scouts of America and then as a teacher for Brookesmith ISD and Brownwood ISD.

After her retirement, she volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  She was a member of several service organizations, including Brown County Retired Teachers Association.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brownwood and had a strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ.  Her Christian attitude was shown by her faithful support through work and deeds for family and friends.

Lena Mae Perkins and H. Wayne Holland were married in January 1940 in Brownwood.  He preceded her in death on December 27, 1975.  She married James E. Willett on May 26, 1981, and he also preceded her in death.

Lena Mae is survived by one son, Robert A. Holland and wife Brenda of Brookesmith, as well as daughters-in-law Lina Holland and Diane Holland of Brownwood.  Grandchildren are Christi Dooling, Natalie Sadler, Sally Haynes, Matt Holland, Shayne Holland, Kelli Chandler, and Aaron Hash, and there are 12 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.  She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Roark of Fort Worth, and Louise Lynch of San Angelo.  Many nieces and nephews knew her as “Aunt Lena”.

Lena Mae was preceded in death by two sons, Joe W. Holland and Larry A. Holland, and a grandson, Herbie Hash.  Also preceding her were brothers James “Bill” Perkins, David Perkins, and Willard Perkins, and sisters Arilee Johnson, Ruby Anglin, and LaVerne Barker.  In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions may be made to the Corrine T. Smith Animal Center, 3016 Milam Dr, Brownwood, TX 76801.
