Written by Amanda Coers – The Lehnis Railroad Museum in Brownwood will be hosting a “Wheels that Move the World” event on March 17-18-19th. Exhibit hours for this event are: March 17th – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., March 18th – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., March 19th – 12 noon to 4 p.m. Admission is only $5 for adults, $2 for kids ages 5-11, and children under age 5 get in free.
The event will feature over 25 different vehicles to explore in a “hands-on” learning event. Everything from firetrucks, police cruisers, construction equipment to brand new cars from local dealers will be on site at the museum. And while attendees are sure to get a thrill exploring military vehicles courtesy of the National Guard at Camp Bowie, staff at the museum also feel there are opportunities to learn about more commonplace vehicles in our area.
“It will be interesting to have a look at even the more ‘every day’ type vehicles, like tractors, things that you see all the time, but this is a chance to get up close and look inside and really learn more about them,” said Beverly Norris, Museum Curator.
Some of the vehicles listed in the event include:
- Firetrucks, from both the Brownwood Fire Department as well as a personally owned truck from State Farm Agent, Matthew Williams.
- Law Enforcement vehicles
- Tractors from Clark Tractor in Comance and Quality Implement in Coleman
- City of Brownwood, TxDot, and Brown County service vehicles, including some road construction equipment
- A limousine from Ideal Limo Services
- The Immunization Truck from the Brown County Health Department
- Construction Equipment from Ingram Concrete, as well as Heart of Texas Granite
- A ‘tricked out’ Trail Hog from Golf Mart International
“We’ll have police officers, firefighters, and a lot of the drivers of the vehicles here to talk to the public,” said Michelle Eezra, Museum Assistant. “The goal of the event is to bring a hands-on experience with vehicles that service and build our community.”
Inside the Lehnis Museum there will be more opportunity to explore brand new vehicles from Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge dealerships, and also motorcycles and more from The House of Wheels.
Food trucks will be on site for hungry attendees, including: the Flour Power Cupcake Trailer, Jackadon’s, the Feed Wagon, and Alicia’s Tamales.
The museum’s Mini Train will be operating throughout the event, with rides available for $2 per person. Big Wheels for both children and adults are on loan from the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce as an added bonus.
“It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a family event where children and adults can learn about many of the vehicles that make up our world,” Beverly Norris said. “And of course, as a railroad museum, we celebrate railroad wheels at all times, and how they keep our world moving today.”
