It was announced Tuesday that Lawrence Elkins who helped lead the Brownwood Lions Football team to a 1960 state championship will be inducted into the Texas Hall of Fame. Elkins played under coaching legend Gordon Wood in their first state championship win that year.
Elkins went on to play football at Baylor where he was a consensus All-American in 1963 & 1964. In 1963 Elkins lead the nation with 70 catches and he caught 144 passes for 2,094 yards with nineteen touchdowns in his college career.
Elkins went on to the pros and played for the Houston Oilers from 1965 to 1968 where he struggled with injuries.
Elkins was inducted into the Baylor Athletic Hall of Fame in 1976 and into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1994.
