According to Brown County Sheriff’s reports, several mailboxes were destroyed presumably by a baseball bat in Blanket. Deputies were called to five residences on August 6th regarding damaged mailboxes.
Though it may seem like rowdy teenage antics, mailboxes are protected by federal law, and crimes against them and the mail they contain are considered a federal offense. Violators can be fined up to $250,000 or imprisoned for up to three years for each act of vandalism.
