Brownwood Police Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Department agencies made multiple arrests over the weekend in unrelated drug cases.

Brownwood Narcotics Officer Aaron Taylor initiated an investigation into the distribution of heroin in the Brownwood area on Saturday, June 4, 2011.  An arrest warrant was issued for 51-year-old Leroy Moore and a search warrant was issued for his residence.

At approximately 5:00pm, officers with the Brownwood Police Department located Mr. Moore at a local business and took him into custody without incident.

The officers then transported Mr. Moore to his residence in the 1300 block of Brooks Street where the search warrant was fulfilled.  During the search, officers located a quantity of heroin and material used in the distribution of heroin.

Moore was charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Grade 1 greater or equal to 1g in a Drug Free Zone and is being held on $25,000 bond.

“A great job was done by Detective Taylor, great effort to get rid of this problem,” stated Brownwood Assistant Chief James Fuller.

The investigation that has taken place over the last month continues and additional arrests are expected according to Fuller.

In an unrelated traffic stop, Brownwood PD conducted a consensual search of a vehicle which netted a quantity of methamphetamine.   The occupants were identified as 19-year-old Jamie LeeAnn Bigbie of Zephyr and 39-year-old Antonia Killinger of Brownwood.  Police said that neither of the women would claim ownership of the meth and therefore both were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Grade 1, less than 1g in a Drug Free Zone.  Each was held on $5000 bonds.

In a third unrelated case, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies were doing surveillance on an apartment Sunday, June 5th around 5:00pm, where they had information that marijuana was being sold from a residence which is in the area of Magnolia and Belmeade.  The investigators saw a vehicle leaving the apartment and noticed traffic violations, failure to signal a turn and an expired registration, and made a stop on the vehicle.  According to BCSO officials, a search of the vehicle resulted in three arrests;  20-year-old DeShawn Johnson, 23-year-old Bryson Lee Powell of Early, and 18-year-old David Michael Smithson, Jr. after marijuana was found in the vehicle.  Each was charged with Possession of Marijuana less than 2 oz.  More marijuana was found on Johnson when he was searched at the Brown County Jail upon book in and he was charged with another count of Possession of Marijuana less than 2 oz according to BCSO.

After the arrests, investigators returned to the apartment where 40-year-old Rene Javier Esparza answered the door and allowed a consensual search of the apartment.   Investigators found more marijuana and arrested Esparza, who was charged with Possession of Marijuana less than 2oz.  According to BCSO investigators, while they were at the apartment, another individual came to the door, identified as 53-year-old Adrian David, who was found to have digital scales and hydrocodone in his possession.  He was charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Grade 3, less than 28g.  Upon a search of David’s apartment, which was in the same complex, he surrendered more marijuana according to law enforcement.  Children were present in the apartment and with the location of the apartment being near to Brownwood Alternative High School, David was charged with Possession of Marijuana in a Drug Free Zone reported investigators.
