Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Nathan Land had an uninvited guest over the weekend when a man was found sleeping on his kitchen floor by relatives that were caring for his child while he was away from the residence.  According to BCSO reports, initially the relatives thought the man might be a friend of the deputy’s; however, when the child stated that this was not one of Land’s friends, the man walked out of the house and left in an SUV, according to BCSO reports.

The man, identified as 30-year-old Charles Ray Pulliam of Zephyr, came to the residence sometime overnight, as Land’s mother-in-law was sleeping on the couch and heard someone enter the house who she thought had keys and came in the back door.  She explained that she thought Pulliam was a friend of Land’s named Robert and that he came in the back of the home, then into the living room and sat in a chair before lying down in front of the kitchen sink and going to sleep.

Land’s daughter woke up that morning and asked her grandmother about the man and when she told the daughter that he was “Robert”, the daughter told her that he was not Robert.  After that, Land’s mother-in-law called the deputy who instructed them to get out of the house.  The man woke up and saw Land’s daughter and sat on the couch for a minute, according to the report.  BCSO reports indicate Pulliam was questioned about who he was and he told Land’s mother-in-law that he had met her last night and that she had brought him there.  She told him she did not know him.  He went to the back door, got into his car and left, the report states.

With a description of the vehicle, BCSO investigators Scott Byrd and Jason Benefield were able to locate Pulliam who was arrested for Criminal Trespass Habitation.  When questioned about the incident, Pulliam admitted being the man who had been asleep on the floor; however, stated that “he didn’t know how he got there,” according to the report.

Brown County Sheriff’s office arrested Pulliam for Criminal Trespass.
