Wednesday, August 5

*10:20 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of 6th Street regarding theft.

*11:04 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1200 block of Avenue G regarding terroristic threat from a family member.

*11:07 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1000 block of W. Commerce regarding theft.

*11:23 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 3700 block of Savoy Drive regarding theft of property.

*12:44 PM – A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy took a complaint of an incident of possible animal cruelty. According to the report, the complainant stated that someone may have poisoned her daughter’s dog. The deputy spoke with a local veterinarian who examined the dog and reported that the dog had no evidence of poisoning but was rather suffering from a disease, possibly worms, the report states. It was unknown if the dog would survive despite the prescribed treatment, according to the report.

*4:10 PM – Brownwood Police made a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Austin Avenue. This stop led to the arrest of 28-year-old Payden Blackburn of Brownwood for driving while license invalid with previous conviction/suspension/without financial responsibility.

*7:07 PM – A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a golf driving range located just off of Hwy 183 North regarding the burglary of a motor vehicle. The complainant stated that an unknown subject had entered his vehicle and stole a black, stainless steel Citizens wrist watch from the center console. The complainant stated that the offense occurred sometime between 8 PM on Monday, August 3rd and 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 4th while his vehicle was left overnight at the driving range.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a scam by a female complainant. According to the report, she stated that she had advertised furniture for sale on Craigslist and received a text message from a buyer regarding the furniture. The complainant received a check in excess of the asking price of the furniture and was instructed to send $1400 by Money Gram to a third party who would be picking up the furniture, the report states.  The original check was returned by the complainant’s bank as fraudulent, according to the report.

*Brown County sheriff’s Office arrested 24-year-old Stephen Christopher Murphy of Brownwood for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence. Murphy was later released on $25,000 bond according to officials at the Brown County Jail.

*Comanche County Sheriff’s Office arrested 46-year-ol Johnny Earl Simmons of Brownwood on a warrant related to motion to revoke/driving while intoxicated.

Thursday, August 6

*12:44 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 500 block of 6th Street regarding the burglary of a vehicle. According to the report, a chainsaw (valued at $400) had been stolen from a locked storage building in the complainant’s back yard.

*2:30 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Avenue E regarding theft, which was later determined to be a civil matter.

*4:41 PM – Brownwood Police responded to the 1300 block of 1st Street regarding a hit and run.

*4:55 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 400 block of W. Commerce regarding theft. According to the report, a female suspect fled the business after attempting to steal merchandise and was located in the drainage ditch near Kroger. The female, identified as 41-year-old Laurie Franklin, was arrested and charged with theft greater than $50 less than $500 and criminal trespass, the report states.

*10:53 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Main Street regarding an alleged sexual assault. An investigation determined that no sexual assault had occurred; however, a juvenile subject stated that a male subject had “grabbed her butt.” A male subject on scene stated that the same male suspect had also damaged the windshield of his pickup. A report for assault by offensive touch and criminal mischief greater than $50 less than $500 was taken, according to law enforcement.

*10:43 PM – A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of E Commerce on a passenger car for a defective brake lamp. According to the report, the driver of the vehicle was identified as 33-year-old Tabath Lee Hyles. After further investigation, a K-9 was requested which alerted on the driver’s side door of the vehicle, and during a probable cause search, 64 Lorazepam tablets, weighing 3.9g, were located in an unmarked pill bottle, which was found inside Hyles’ purse, the report states. Hyles was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 3 less than 28 grams, a Class A misdemeanor, according to the report.

The City of Early Beautification Commission awarded their commercial and residential yard of the month at their monthly meeting, which took place August 6, 2015.

The commercial yard of the month was awarded to Early United Methodist Church, located at 1069 Early Blvd.

“The Methodist church has always been a great partner to the City of Early and they have done a fabulous job maintaining their landscaping,” stated Assistant City Manager Larry McConn.

The Commission also chose Lane & Sheila Dryden’s residence at 800 Scarlet Dr, for its residential yard of the month.

McConn and members of the commission thank the Drydens for “always having a great looking and clean landscape.”
