Emergency responders were called to a residence located on Hwy 183N early Wednesday morning regarding a male subject who had been stabbed in the neck during an altercation, according to Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived on scene at 3:37 a.m., the victim was lying on the side of the driveway, being cared for by two females who had a towel wrapped around the victim’s neck. The victim was speaking and coherent, according to the deputy’s report. When EMS arrived on scene, the towel was removed and it was discovered that he had two lacerations to his neck, one superficial cut near his Adam’s apple and the other more severe laceration was just below the jaw line on the left side.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for treatment and evaluation of his injuries and then later released, according to BCSO Captain Vance Hill.
According to the report, two men had involved in an argument which escalated in the two calling each other out to fight in the front yard of the residence. An investigation determined that one of the men, identified as 24-year-old Stephen Christopher Murphy, went inside the home and grabbed a sword to intimidate the other male, the deputy described in the report. As the confrontation became physical, Murphy allegedly held the sword up to the victim’s neck and then “pushed” him, which caused the injuries.
Murphy was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-family violence, a first degree felony. Murphy was later released on $25,000 bond.In unrelated law enforcement arrests and reports released Wednesday, August 5, 2015.
