According to Early Chief of Police David Mercer, Officer Brandon McMillian stopped a tan pickup Saturday in the 500 block of E. Commerce, just inside Brownwood.  Officer McMillian spoke with the driver, 49-year-old Sandra Ann Lyon, and observed drug paraphernalia in the floor of the car, reports state. Upon further investigation, Officer McMillian located scales and packaging material along with 11 grams of methamphetamine, according to the report. Lyon and the passenger, 43-year-old Michael Edward Cooper, both of Blanket, admitted they were enroute to Brownwood to sell the drugs, reported Mercer. Cooper and Lyon were arrested and taken to the Brown County Jail for Possession of Controlled Substance.

Friday, August 26

*9:15pm-Brownwood Police received a report by telephone regarding debit card abuse. Information was obtained regarding fraudulent purchases made in Brownwood. 

*9:58am-Brownwood Police made a traffic stop in the 800 block of Avenue B for a defective brake light.  The stop led to the arrest of 33-year-old Devitt Carene Kennard for Driving While License Invalid/Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.

*3:40pm-A Brownwood Police officer on duty at Brownwood High School was notified that a fight was in progress near the gym area.  He arrived to find the two subjects had been separated.  The two subjects were known to the officer and standing by teachers.  Investigation determined that a fight had occurred and both were issued citations for disorderly conduct.  One subject was issued a criminal trespass warning for BISD property and arrested for a Brown County warrant.

*4:55pm-A Brownwood Police officer observed a subject, identified as 27-year-old Crystal Negrete, driving a vehicle in the 2800 block of Southside Drive.  The officer had knowledge that Negrete had outstanding warrants for her arrest for theft issued by Brownwood Police Department.  Once Negrete stopped her vehicle in the parking lot of her apartment and communications confirmed the warrants, the officer placed Negrete under arrest.  Negrete was also charged with Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Grade 1 Less than 1g Drug Free Zone.

*5:23pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 100 block of Bluffview Drive regarding the violation of a protective order.  The suspect, 42-year-old Myron Oscar Condon, was located at a local hotel after he had left the location of the incident.  With information that Condon had violated the protective order twice this date and once previously, a warrant was obtained for his arrest.    Condon was served with two arrest warrants for violation of a protective order and taken to the Brown County Jail.

*6:32pm-Brownwood Police were called to 401 W. Commerce regarding shoplifting.  As a result, 19-year-old Sarah Varney and 21-year-old Melinda Varney were arrested for Theft of Property equal or greater than $50 less than $500.

*7:06pm-Brownwood Police officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 300 block of W. Chandler.  The driver, identified as 30-year-old Elizabeth Anne Malone was found to have a suspended driver’s license for department suspension/Driving While License Invalid.  Malone was placed under arrest for Driving While License Invalid.

*8:41pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of Terrace Drive in reference to theft.    The complainant advised that on August 24th, he had left his wallet at 403 W. Commerce (Murphy’s USA) and when he returned to retrieve the wallet, it had been turned in to a Murphy’s employee but $174 was missing.

*9:10pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Gifford regarding a hit and run.  An investigation is ongoing.  The victim wishes to pursue charges if a suspect is found.

*11:43pm-A Brownwood Police officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Glade Street.  The driver was identified as 27-year-old Brandon Alan Jarvis and was determined to be intoxicated with an infant which was 17 months old present in the vehicle, according to police reports.  Jarvis was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated with Child under 15 Years of Age.  The other adult passenger and child were released at the scene.

*Early Police Officer Brandon McMillian stopped a pickup in the 100 block of Hwy 183 north for a traffic violation. The driver, 31-year-old Donnelle Vanhorn of Copperas Cove, seemed nervous during the stop, according to police reports.  When Officer McMillian questioned him about why he was nervous, Vanhorn stated he had a “bag of weed in his bag.” The marijuana was seized and Vanhorn was taken to the Brown county jail for Possession of Marijuana.

*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 40-year-old Matthew S. Pittman for Driving While Intoxicated.

Saturday, August 27

*1:16pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 300 block of E. Commerce regarding found property.  The reporting party stated that he had found a social security card in the parking lot of a business.  Attempts were made to call the owner of the card with no success.  An attempt to visit the owner’s residence of record was also attempted with no success and the card was placed into the evidence room at Brownwood Police Department until the owner can properly claim it.

*1:48pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 2000 block of Austin Avenue regarding an abandoned vehicle.  According to the report, the vehicle was unsecured, the trunk was open and the vehicle was in overall poor condition.  A witness reported that the vehicle had been parked at the location for two days.  The vehicle was labeled as abandoned and impounded until the owner can be located.

*10:04pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the Budget Inn regarding a domestic disturbance.  The call resulted in the issuance of a criminal trespass warning to one subject at the request of the owner of the hotel.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21-year-old Mitchell Lee Gibbs for Driving While Intoxicated.

*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Elmer Paul Lawrence of Lake Brownwood for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd.

Sunday, August 28

*2:44am-Brownwood Police responded to the 2300 block of Main Blvd. where 10-15 subjects were reported to be fighting in front of a residence and the complainant stated that he saw handguns.  The area was deserted upon officers’ arrival.  The call was investigated further and charges are expected to be filed for False Report to Police and Abuse of 911 System.  The suspect is known.

*3:59am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1800 block of Vincent regarding a citizens’ dispute.  According to the report, the complainant advised that a subject had tried to run over him with a vehicle.  Police officials state that alcohol was the source of all the problems.  According to police, a pickup pulled to the residence and the occupants wanted to buy beer from them.  Words were exchanged and it was not determined who started the exchange, police report.   One of the residents went to the truck and while by the door, the driver (20-year-old Joseph Bates) turned the wheels sharp and accelerated into the yard causing the resident to believe they were trying to hit him, according to police.  Bates was located at another residence and he denied any problems but stated that the resident started it.  Police report that Bates was later a suspect in a domestic at his house when he finally returned home.  He was later arrested on a charge unrelated to this incident (see incident below).

*6:50am-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of 10th Street regarding a male subject who was standing outside of a residence at this location and was “slamming doors and making a lot of noise,” according to the report.  The call led to the arrest of Joseph Bates for Resisting Arrest and Failure to Identify.

*9:26am-Brownwood Police were called to the 200 block of Yale Street regarding criminal mischief.  The complainant stated that the driver’s side tires of her vehicle were flat.  The officer noted the front tire had been cut with a sharp object.   

*1:43pm-Brownwood Police were called to 401 W. Commerce regarding criminal mischief of a vehicle.  According to police reports, the damage to the vehicle did not appear to be consistent with intentional criminal mischief and appeared to be older damage.  The complainant wished to view surveillance video to see if someone had keyed her vehicle.  Asset protection employees of Wal-Mart were contacted for review of the video and the investigation is ongoing.

*2:17pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Coggin Avenue in reference to a suspicious female who had come into the store and purchased two alcoholic beverages.    According to the report, when the female paid for the beverages with 20 silver quarters, the clerk remembered hearing of recent burglaries in Coleman involving the theft of coin collections.  Coleman County Sheriff’s Department was contacted regarding the coins to determine if the coins and the burglaries are related.  The investigation is ongoing.

*3:03pm-Brownwood Police responded to the 300 block of N. Fisk Avenue regarding the violation of a court order.  The victim stated that she has an active protective order against her husband who has sent her a flower and has been driving by her place of work.  She stated that this is a violation of the protective order.

*6:30pm-Brownwood Police were called to 401 W. Commerce regarding theft.  After investigation, it was found that a female subject attempted to steal a bottle of vitamins from the store.  The female was issued a citation for theft less than $50.

*10:25pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2600 block of Temple where they received a report of harassment by phone.

*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 31-year-old Jeremy Davin McCutchen for Driving While Intoxicated 1st.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21-year-old Stevie Lee Rose for Possession of Dangerous Drug and Failure to Identify.

Monday, August 29

*12:03am-Brownwood Police conducted a traffic stop in the 1400 block of 2nd Street for Failure to Yeild Right of Way Turning Left.  The driver, identified as 21-year-old Tamara Sue Bond of Blanket, was placed under arrest for Driving While License Suspended with No Insurance.   

*2:08am-A Brownwood Police officer was dispatched to assist another officer in the 500 block of E. Commerce regarding an intoxicated subject outside of the business.    The subject, identified as 41-year-old Robert Rouse, was placed under arrest for Public Intoxication.

*Early Police arrested 34-year-old Irene Diaz of Santa Anna for Driving While License Invalid.

All arrestees are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
