A Brown County woman was assaulted after she checked on the occupant of a vehicle that had wrecked into a bar ditch near the intersection of Harbor Drive and Lakeshore Drive overnight near Lake Brownwood, according to law enforcement.
At approximately 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday morning, a Brown County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the 4100 block of Tamarack Drive in the North Lake Brownwood area regarding a pickup truck driving around the area with “loud pipes.” While en route, a second call came into dispatch from a 66-year-old woman who had discovered a truck had wrecked in the area. As the woman made contact and began speaking with the male driver of the vehicle, the phone connection was lost, the report states.
About 4 minutes later, dispatch was able to recontact the female caller who stated she had gotten into a physical altercation with the driver, identified as 29-year-old Justin Sly Basham, who took her phone and threw it into a bar ditch across the roadway, the report states. The man then left the area on foot.
Moments before the deputy arrived, Basham allegedly entered a nearby residence on Harbor Drive and began assaulting a male inside the residence, according to the report. The occupants of the home stated that they did not know Basham, who was persuaded to leave the home as one of the other male residents retrieved a shot gun, the report states. When the deputy arrived, he cuffed Basham and began interviewing the victims and witnesses whose stories confirmed the previously described incidents, the report states. Basham was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery of an elderly person, burglary of a habitation (intent to commit an assault and interference with emergency request for assistance), according to the report.
