DeeringYarbroughThe Early Police Department and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens made a traffic stop Saturday afternoon which resulted in the arrest of two people along with the seizure of $9000 cash.

Early Police Chief David Mercer reported that the traffic stop occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. on FM 2525 just south of US Hwy 183 in Early.  Game Warden Vance Flowers and EPD Sgt. Steven Means stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation said Mercer.

According to the report, Flowers made contact with the driver, identified as 40-year-old Wilma Deering of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and a strong smell of marijuana was coming from the vehicle.  Sgt Means then questioned the passenger, 53-year-old Thomas Rider Yarbrough (also of Colorado Springs), who later asked Sgt. Means if he could obtain his heart medication from the trunk of the car because he wasn’t feeling good, the report states.  Sgt Means assisted Yarbrough in obtaining the medication and when he opened the trunk, the odor of marijuana was very intense, the report states. Yarbrough was provided his medication then questioned about the odor and both Deering and Yarbrough admitted there was marijuana in the trunk, said Mercer.

Both Yarbrough and Deering were detained pending the investigation.  According to Chief Mercer, marijuana was located in the trunk with a field weight of approximately one-quarter pound along with $9000 in cash. Officers also located packaging material with the marijuana, the report states.  Both Deering and Yarbrough were placed under arrest for delivery of marijuana, a state jail felony, and taken to the Brown County Jail, reported Mercer.  The currency was seized and submitted to the District attorney’s office Monday morning pending forfeiture.

*9:03 AM – Brown County Sheriff’s Office received a report from TxDOT employees that diesel had been stolen out of a rubber tire roller that was located at FM 2940 near Cross Cut.

Friday, August 15

*8:14 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2300 block of Magnolia Street regarding criminal mischief.  A vehicle had been keyed during the overnight hours while parked at this location, according to the report.

*11:36 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to Walmart regarding reckless damage.  According to the report, a male subject had struck the side of the complainant’s vehicle with a door and then refused to provide the complainant with any of his information and drove away.

*1:02 PM – Brownwood Police were called to Walmart regarding theft.  According to the report, a juvenile subject was detained for theft of property and transported to the Brownwood Police Department where he was processed and released to his mother.

*3:48 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Bluffview regarding a front door being kicked in.  The resident claimed that a boyfriend had kicked in the door on Thursday trying to get into her apartment, the report states.

*3:54 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 700 block of W. Austin Avenue regarding a scam.  According to the report, the complainant advised that he had been scammed out of $4000 after he was advised by a subject that if he invested his money, he would be guaranteed a profitable return.  A report for exploitation of the elderly was filed, according to police.

*8:39 PM – Brownwood Police made a traffic stop in the 800 block of Avenue C.  During the stop, officers obtained consent to search the vehicle which resulted in the discovery of a small quantity of methamphetamine on the driver’s person.  The driver, identified as 43-year-old Brandi Stokes of Brownwood, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 gram in a drug free zone.

*10:04 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1500 block of Terrace Drive regarding a disorderly subject.  According to the report, after many attempts to calm the disorderly male identified as 26-year-old Brandon Dorry of Comanche, he was taken into custody for disorderly conduct.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19-year-old Saber West Fraley of Rising Star on warrants related to failure to appear, expired driver’s license and drove on wrong side of the road.

*26-year-old Jacob Alonzo Gomez of Brownwood turned himself in on a warrant related to failure to appear/driving while license invalid with previous conviction.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24-year-old Cody Wayne Harrell of May for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1less than 1 gram.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21-year-old Payton Lee of May on an Eastland County warrant related to motion to revoke/possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.

Saturday, August 16

*4:02 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Bailey Street regarding the theft of a firearm.  According to the report, a male subject who had been drinking at the complainant’s home and left with a shotgun without the complainant’s permission.  Officers located the male, identified as 20-year-old Terry Reed, Jr. of Brownwood, in a grassy area close to the 200 block of Cordell and found he had left the firearm, which was loaded with one live round, nearby, the report states.  Reed also had three live shotgun rounds in his pocket along with a partially smoked marijuana cigarette, according to the report.  Officers determined Reed was intoxicated and he was subsequently arrested for public intoxication and possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces, the officer reported.  The firearm was returned to its owner and the marijuana placed into evidence, the report states.

*1:50 PM – Brownwood Police were called to Walmart regarding theft.  According to the report, a citation was issued to the suspect for the theft of property valued at $13.73. The subject was released and items returned to the store, no criminal trespass warning was issued at this time, the report states.

*3:43 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 4200 block of Hwy 377 South regarding criminal mischief.  According to the report, the complainant stated an unknown subject keyed her vehicle during the overnight hours.

*4:35 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Fisk Street regarding theft.  According to the report, a trailer valued at $5000 was stolen from the business and the owner wished to pursue charges if a suspect can be identified.

*6:03 PM – Brownwood Police responded to the 2800 block of Glen Cove regarding theft.  According to the report, the complainant stated that an unknown subject entered her home and stole several of her prescription medications.  An investigation is ongoing, the report states.

*8:00 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to Walmart regarding theft.  According to the report, it was determined that a female subject had stolen items totaling $32.59.  Management wished to pursue charges and a citation was issued to the female for theft less than $50.

*8:43 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center regarding an assault.

*A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a location on CR 564 regarding the burglary of a building. The complainant advised he had come to his vacation home, on Lake Brownwood, and found an unknown person had stolen several items of fishing gear from his boat dock.

*Bangs Police arrested 44-year-old Jerold Lee Watts of Coleman for public intoxication.

Sunday, August 17

*12:55 AM – An Early police officer was dispatched to the report of a domestic disturbance, which had occurred in the City of Brownwood, and the suspects had left the scene and drove into the City of Early in a silver “dually” pickup.  According to the report, a Brown County Sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle driving beside a business on Orchard Drive with no headlights, and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle for no headlights.  This stop led to the arrest of the driver, identified as 49-year-old Clarence Edward Holland of Zephyr, for Driving While Intoxicated, the report states.

*12:57 PM – A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a residence on Ardee Drive near Lake Brownwood for a welfare check.  After interviewing family and consulting with Sheriff’s Office supervisor, entry was forced into the residence to check on the resident; however, there was no one in the residence.

*8:53 PM – Brownwood Police made a traffic stop in the 2000 block of South US Hwy 377.  According to the report, the driver, identified as 33-year-old Alisa Edwards of Brownwood was driving with a suspended driver’s license.  Edwards was subsequently arrested for driving while license invalid with previous conviction.

*7:03 PM – A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to Oak Farm Drive for a report of the theft of a travel trailer. According to the report, the complainant stated that sometime between May and August 2014, his 1980 model Golden Nugget travel trailer, valued at $3500.00, was stolen from the courtesy parking area in Oak Point.  He advised there was a stripped down trailer, which resembled his at another residence on Oak Point Drive, which he believed was his trailer, the report states.

*23-year-old Kenneth Wayne Baker of Brownwood turned himself in on a warrant related to failure to appear/possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.

*Early Police arrested 23-year-old Emily Casarez for driving while intoxicated with open container.

*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 23-year-old Quinton Travis of Amarillo for possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.

Monday, August 18

*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 22-year-old Jacob Hoeffner of Amarillo for possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.
