A man was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center in the early morning hours Wednesday after being assaulted by several men, according to Brownwood Police.
An officer was dispatched to an address in the 2200 block of Coggin Avenue around 2:20am Wednesday when a witness reported the incident. According to police reports, the witness said that he heard a commotion outside and saw several men get into a pickup leaving an injured victim on the ground. The witness reported that the suspects fled, and after a few minutes, the victim left the area as well.
Brownwood police later located the subject and determined that he was the victim of an aggravated assault where a rod-like pole was used. The police report states that the victim had injuries to his head including bleeding, pronounced swelling, bruising under the eye, and a bloody and swollen lip.
The victim told police that he did not know the names of the suspects, but he believes that they were old football rivals who he recognized as former students of an area rural high school. The victim told police that he had seen them at a party earlier in the evening, the report states. The victim said that he was walking home from another party and took a wrong turn when the assailants showed up on Coggin Avenue where the incident occurred.
Brownwood police criminal investigation division is investigating the case.

*3:52pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Fisk Avenue regarding theft. According to the report, a bow fishing reel with orange line, a 3-pack of broad head arrowheads, an arm guard and 6 steel shafted arrows were stolen from Weakley-Watson Sporting Goods Store.
*5:32pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 1100 block of Duke Street regarding an assault. According to the report, the complainant stated that he was struck by a vehicle. He did wish to pursue criminal charges against the driver of the vehicle, the report states.
*8:19pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2500 block of 1st Street regarding a suspicious writing about a sexual assault. According to the report, the writing was found in the complainant’s yard and was taken to be secured as evidence at Brownwood Police Department.
Tuesday, July 3
*11:57am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1100 block of Holcomb Street regarding criminal mischief. According to the report, the complainant stated that the driver’s side rear passenger window was damaged on her Chevy van. Damage was estimated at $350, the report states.
*12:01pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to a residence in the 4400 block of Westridge Drive regarding an incident of theft which had occurred in the 3500 block of Rhodes Road. According to the report, the complainant stated that a small black and white table was taken from her apartment, along with a mattress and box spring.
*12:40pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 4200 block of Hwy 377S regarding an animal bite. According to the report, a male subject was bit on the left arm by a dog at the apartment complex. The owners of the dog were located and stated that the dog was current on its rabies vaccine, the report states. The officer advised the owners to quarantine the dog, according to the report.
*6:00pm-Brownwood Police received a report of theft in the 2000 block of 9th Street. Suspect information was given and an investigation is underway, the report states.
*6:45pm-Brownwood police were called to the 500 block of W. Commerce regarding a lost wallet. According to the report, the complainant stated that he had left his wallet at a business and when he returned to retrieve it, it had been stolen. The complainant did wish to pursue criminal charges if a suspect could be located, the report states.
*11:02pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2300 block of Main Blvd regarding a citizens’ dispute. According to the report, no criminal offense was committed; however the complainant requested a criminal trespass warning be issued to the other subject involved, which was issued during the call.
Wednesday, July 4
*10:47am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1300 block of 16th Street regarding a hit and run accident. According to the report, a vehicle belonging to the complainant’s daughter was struck overnight by an unknown vehicle. The incident was believed to have possibly occurred at either Wal-Mart or the Sunset Terrace Apartments in Brownwood.
*11:11am-Brownwood Police were called to the 2400 block of Avenue D regarding criminal mischief. According to the report, the complainant’s vehicle had been damaged sometime during the night.
*11:58am-A Brownwood Police officer made a traffic stop in the 100 block of Coleman Street after observing a vehicle make a turn from the wrong lane while failing to signal the turn. During the stop, a search of the vehicle revealed prescription medication which was not found to be prescribed to the driver, identified as 63-year-old Barbara Blanton of Bangs, according to the report. Blanton stated that she was given the medication by a friend, the report states. Blanton was subsequently arrested for Possession of a Dangerous Drug.
*1:34pm-Brownwood Police responded to a burglary in the 2500 block of Elizabeth Drive. According to the report, the complainant stated that while she was asleep in the back bedroom of her residence, she heard a crash which sounded like glass breaking. The report states that the complainant alerted her son that someone was breaking into the house and as they entered the kitchen they heard the back entryway storm door closing and the door glass was broken with enough force that the shattered glass flew approximately 6 feet onto the kitchen floor. Evidence was collected but no arrest was made at the time of the report, the report states.
*7:06pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of Borden Street regarding a fight in progress. According to the report, investigation revealed that an argument between brothers led to a physical altercation resulting in minor injuries. 33-year-old Billy Joe Brummett of Brookesmith was arrested at the scene for Assault with Injury Family Violence.
*8:46pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 100 block of Miller Drive in reference to an assault. According to the report, an employee of the Brownwood Nursing and Rehab was assaulted by a patient at the facility. The victim refused medical treatment; however, an investigation is ongoing, the report states.
*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 18-year-old Justin Thomas Moore for Driving While Intoxicated.
Thursday, July 5
*12:50am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1600 block of Brady Avenue regarding a domestic disturbance. According to the report, investigation determined that the female victim was assaulted by her husband, identified as 58-year-old Randy Gierisch. Gierisch was arrested and charged with Assault Family Violence with Injury by Strangulation.
*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 39-year-old William Boles of Cisco for Driving While Intoxicated.
*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 45-year-old Cassandra Lorraine Lewis of Coleman for Driving While Intoxicated.
All arrestees are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
