LECSmBrownwood Police arrested a woman for a second time in eight days for forgery of a financial instrument on Tuesday.

According to Brownwood Police, 24-year-old Christina Gomez of Brownwood had attempted to cash a stolen check on July 1st in the Citizens National Bank drive-thru when a teller reported the crime.  The teller explained to the officer that Gomez came to the bank earlier and cashed a temporary check from the same stolen account, the report states.

Gomez had been arrested recently in another incident after she was accused of stealing an iPhone and tried to use a stolen check as payment at a local nail salon on June 23rd, according to a previous police report.  The check was connected to a previous burglary of a vehicle, according to law enforcement.

The responding officer interviewed Gomez about the newest incident, who was parked in the drive-thru of the bank waiting to cash the check, according to the report.   When asked about the checks, Gomez stated that she was at the bank to cash a check she had received for babysitting; however, she did state that she had endorsed this check as well as the check cashed earlier in the day, the report states.

The owner of the checking account was contacted and stated that she had not written the checks, and she had left her checks at her boyfriend’s home and was not sure how Gomez had possession of them, according to the officer’s report.

The officer was notified by dispatch that Gomez had 4 warrants for her arrest and she was placed under arrest for the warrants, the report states.  Gomez was placed into the patrol unit while the officer spoke with the owner of the bank account.  While waiting in the patrol unit, Gomez was able to get her handcuffed arms in front of her body, unbuckle the seatbelt which was previously restraining her and managed to scatter the contents of her purse onto the backseat of the patrol unit, the police report states.

The officer placed Gomez back into the seatbelt and while en route to the jail, she began complaining that she was about to have an asthma attack, the report states.  An ambulance was called to the jail, however, Gomez told jail staff that she had taken several pills, and the jail staff refused to take her until she was cleared at the emergency room, the report states.

Gomez was loaded into an ambulance and taken to the ER where she was combative with the nursing staff and refused to cooperate, the report states.  She was able to escape from the treatment room and ran through the halls of the hospital until she reached the front door and ran out into the parking lot, according to the report.  She crawled under an SUV in the parking lot and was told by officers to come out or she would be tased, according to the officer’s report.  She complied and came out from under the SUV and was handcuffed by officers and taken back to the ER where she continued to fight with officers, the report states.  Once inside, she was handcuffed to the bed.

The nurses told the arresting officer that Gomez had a checkbook with her property, which was located and found to contain one more check related to the account from which she had previously tried to cash two checks, the report states.

The officer also noted in his report that Gomez had caused damage to the patrol unit’s Plexiglas guard on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Gomez was later transported to the jail, charged with two counts of forgery of a financial instrument, escape from custody, and on surety withdrawals for theft of services equal or greater than $500 less than $1500 and possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 gram.
