Brownwood Police stopped a suspicious vehicle early Sunday morning which resulted in the arrest of the 13-year-old driver who had taken two of his friends for a drive in a stolen vehicle.
A Brownwood Police officer was on patrol in the 1600 block of 4th Street when he noticed a blue 1992 Chevy Caprice Classic at a stop sign around 4:30am. When the driver went through the intersection at 4th Street and Avenue I, the officer heard a metal-on-pavement sound and noticed that the entire right front tire was missing, the police report states. The officer then initiated a traffic stop.
The officer recognized the driver as a 13-year-old male that has been involved in several thefts in the area, according to Brownwood Police officials. Two other juveniles were occupants of the vehicle. After determining that the vehicle did not belong to any of the juveniles’ parents or another occupant of their household, the registered owner was identified and contacted. The report states that the owner did not give the juveniles permission to use the vehicle, and subsequently the driver was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The two other juveniles were released to their parents. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen out of the owner’s driveway where it was parked, unlocked with the keys in the ignition.
Brownwood Police stated this was a crime of opportunity and that residents should always remove their keys and lock their vehicles to prevent burglary or theft of the vehicle.

Tuesday, July 5
*3:06pm-Brownwood Police were called to 401 W. Commerce, regarding criminal mischief. A vehicle at the location had its right front window broken out. The cost to repair the window was estimated to be approximately $250. An arrest has not been made as of the time of the report; however, a witness was identified and photographs of the suspect were obtained.
Friday, July 8
*12:12pm-A Brownwood Police officer met with a complainant who wished to report a theft. According to the report, the complainant stated that she is a co-troop leader and believes that a named suspect stole the troop’s cookie sales commission money. The complainant showed the officer evidence that the Girl Scout Council was not fully paid for cookies and that the troop’s commission was not deposited in the troop’s account, the report states.
*2:02pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of 2nd Street regarding an unwanted subject. The subject was issued a criminal trespass warning at the request of the homeowner. The homeowner was also issued a criminal trespass warning for the unwanted subject’s residence.
*2:47pm-Brownwood Police received a report from Rent-a-Center regarding a customer hindering a secured creditor by concealing or stealing a 55-inch flat screen television. A suspect has been named; however no arrest had been made at the time of the report.
*2:59pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the VFW post at 2300 Stephen F. Austin regarding forgery. According to the report, a check had been forged and cashed for the amount of $400 which belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary. An investigation is pending and a suspect has been named in the incident.
*5:12pm-Brownwood Police were called to 401 W. Commerce, Wal-Mart, where a loss prevention employee had two suspects detained for shoplifting. According to the report, the employee advised the officers that the two suspects, a juvenile and 17-year-old Steven Frias of Bangs, attempted to leave the store without paying for a large quantity of items. Both the juvenile and Frias were arrested for Class B Theft. Items stolen included three bottles of cologne, a plastic storage box, nearly $134 of consumable goods, dress pants, several hygiene products, a pillow case, a cell phone charger, toothbrush and athletic tape.
*Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of theft of property on CR 411. The victim reported that in the last two months, 14 gauge copper wire had been stolen from his property. The wire was connected to the oil rigs on his property and is needed in order for the rigs to run properly. If a suspect can be identified, the complainant wishes to pursue charges.
Saturday, July 9
*6:33pm-A complainant came to the Law Enforcement Center to report the theft of money from his bank account by fraudulent means. According to the report, the complainant reported that a local lending company had continued to draft two payments, totaling over $300, out of his bank account after the debt was repaid.
*Brown Count y Sheriff’s Office received a report of theft. The complainant stated that she had an oral agreement with the suspect who was given permission to use the vehicle with the condition that they make payments to her for a 2009 Chevrolet. According to the report, when the suspect repeatedly failed to make the payments, the complainant unsuccessfully attempted to have the vehicle repossessed. The suspect returned the vehicle to her property; however it was missing approximately $2000 of parts and accessories that were on the vehicle when the owner turned it over to the suspect, the report states.
Sunday, July 10
*1:28am-Brownwood Police were dispatched to 400 E. Commerce in reference to a large fight. Two men, identified as 32-year-old Alexander McClendon and 26-year-old Fidencio Moya, Jr., were determined to be intoxicated and were involved in the fight, according to the report. McClendon and Moya were arrested for Public Intoxication.
*8:09am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1700 block of 2nd Street regarding the burglary of a vehicle. The complainant stated that his vehicle had been burglarized overnight and a tan wallet containing his Texas driver’s license, debit card, credit card and other personal information was taken during the offense. A pair of eye glasses valued at $150 was also stolen in the burglary.
*8:44am-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Lipscomb regarding found property. The complainant had discovered an 18-speed bicycle. Officers checked the serial number to see if it had been reported as stolen and found that it had not. The bicycle was taken to the Brownwood Police Department for safekeeping until the rightful owner could properly identify and claim it.
*9:11am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1700 block of Waco regarding theft of medication. According to the report, the complainant stated that she believed that her son had stolen her medications. According to the report, the medication had been in her purse prior to her son’s arrival at 10:30pm July 7th and was found to be missing after her son left the next day at 5:30am.
*9:15am-Brownwood Police were dispatched to 1600 block of Calvert, Brownwood Middle School, to a report of criminal mischief. The reporting party stated that he had found the bottom glass of a door broken on the east side of the school. Several rocks were observed near the broken glass pane of the door. It did not appear that the suspect(s) entered the school. An investigation is pending.
*10:25am-A Brownwood Police officer received a report of found property after being contacted at the 7-11 store in the 3800 block of 4th Street. The store employee turned over an ADP Total Pay Card, a hotel key card and a business card. The items were taken for safekeeping and placed at the Brownwood Police Department.
*11:24am-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of Indian Creek in reference to an assault. According to the report, the complainant stated that a male client had kicked her in the face. She was taken to the BRMC emergency room; X-rays were taken to determine whether her nose was broken, the report states. The complainant did wish to pursue charges against the client.
*5:00pm-Brownwood Police were called to 401 W. Commerce regarding theft. According to a loss prevention employee, the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Terry Reed, took a pair of Cookie Monster boxers and put them into his back pocket, then took a Hot Spot blemish remover and concealed it on his person after taking it from its packaging, then consumed an energy drink and left it on a shelf, and attempted to steal a second energy drink before leaving the store, the report states. The total value of the stolen items is reported to be $53.43. Reed was arrested for Theft of Property greater than $50 less than $500.
*9:51pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of Bluffview. According to the report, the complainant advised that the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Zachery Thrice Green, had shoved her into the wall and onto the ground causing her to cut her foot on a piece of glass. The suspect alleged that the victim was also shoving him and throwing things against the wall. The victim was taken to the emergency room for treatment. Green was arrested for Assault with Injury, Family Violence.
*Early Police Department arrested 19-year-old Devin Angel Vargas of Early for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Monday, July 11
*12:09am – According to Brownwood Police, a probation search was performed on 28-year-old Terry Blaine Bessent at a residence in the 900 block of Avenue D and found a quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Bessent’s mother, 53-year-old Terri Lisa Bessent Wyatt and her boyfriend 50-year-old James Victor Carr were also present at the time of the probation search, the report states.
Bessent was subsequently arrested for Possession of Marijuana less than 2 oz. Wyatt and Carr were each arrested on separate charges of manufacture delivery of Controlled substance Penalty Grade 1 less than 1g Drug Free Zone; Possession of Controlled substance Penalty Grade 1 greater or equal to 1g, less than 4g in a Drug Free Zone and Possession of Marijuana less than 2oz.
*3:49am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1000 block of Coggin Avenue. An iPhone was reported stolen. No suspect information was available.
*7:11pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of 4th Street regarding assault. 21-year-old Arturo Allen Cadena was arrested for Assault Causing Injury Family Violence.
*11:57pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 2800 block of Austin Avenue regarding terroristic threat. The complainant stated that her ex-boyfriend threatened to harm her daughter’s father.
All arrestees are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
