LECSmBrownwood Police were dispatched to the 3600 block of Surrey Lane on Friday, May 30th for an agency assist with Early Police which resulted in the injury of a male and arrest of another for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Approximately 9:11 AM, Brownwood Police were called to assist Early Police Detective Mike McCoy with a fight that occurred while he was working on investigating a separate incident which had occurred in Early.  According to the report, while Detective McCoy was talking with the resident, identified as 32-year-old Julian Gomez, two other males were walking toward McCoy and Gomez.  Gomez informed McCoy that one of the males had allegedly stolen his television from inside the residence, the report states.  McCoy told Gomez he would inform Brownwood Police about Gomez’s complaint.

McCoy explained to the officer that as the men approached, Gomez grabbed a baseball bat and charged the male accused of the theft, striking him several times with the bat, according to the report.  McCoy attempted to restrain Gomez and was able to pull him off of the victim, the report states.  The victim stated that he had been at the residence earlier with Gomez and that Gomez was high on narcotics and had thrown a chair at him as he accused him of stealing the television, the report states.  The victim stated that he had returned to the residence with his brother to explain to Gomez that he had not stolen the television, the report states.  The victim had several abrasions to his face and neck and the officer observed a lot of blood coming from the back of the victim’s head according to the report.

As a result of the statements made by Detective McCoy and the visible injuries present to the victim’s body, Gomez was arrested for the offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (2nd degree felony) by Brownwood Police, the report states.

Gomez was transported to the Brown County Jail where the BPD officer explained to him that he needed help with his narcotics addiction and he agreed, the report states.  Gomez was being held in lieu of bonds totaling $66,500 as of Tuesday morning.

The bat, which had been cut off looking more like a small club than a baseball bat, was placed into evidence at the Brownwood Police Department.
