Brownwood Police, in an attempt to make contact with members of the Rebel Rider motorcycle club, were refused entry to Festival Park in Brownwood which resulted in the arrest of one Rebel Rider member Saturday evening.

At approximately 8pm during an attempt to check the area of the park, which had been reserved by the club for a “pound party”, officers were initially refused entry into the park through the main gate which the club had locked.  According to police, officers informed a member at the gate, identified as 35-year-old Wesley Mason of Blanket, that the City of Brownwood had the right to check the condition of its property and to make sure no city ordinances were being violated.    Other officers made entry to the park through the rear access while those at the front gate were “caused to make a forcible entry to the park by breaking the lock.”

Police were not welcomed by the approximately 100 members present for the event who were yelling and cursing as police entered according to Assistant Police Chief James Fuller.

The group was found to be consuming massive amounts of alcohol, a direct violation of city ordinance,” stated Fuller.  The park was littered with evidence of alcoholic beverage containers, according to Fuller.

Police reports indicate that one woman walked by an officer with a beer in her hand and was being issued a citation when Mason came running up to the officer.  As Mason approached the officer, a second officer tried to stop him from interfering, gave him directions to exit the scene, which Mason ignored according to BPD officials.

Mason was told by officers that he would be arrested if he did not comply with their directions.  Mason was then told to put his hands behind his back, to which he allegedly crossed his arms and leaned against the patrol car, telling officers that he didn’t believe he would be arrested, the report states.  As Mason was placed in handcuffs, he struggled and resisted, causing a second officer to have to assist in the arrest, police state.  Mason was taken into custody charged with Resisting Arrest and Interfering with Duties of a Public Servant.

Mason was held on a total of $5000 bonds and was released on Sunday.
