Friday, June 20
*5:21 AM – A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the report of a reckless driver at the intersection of US Hwy 183N and County Road 405. According to the report, the stop was made and an investigation determined the driver, 23-year-old Justin Ray Murphy of Jacksboro, to be intoxicated. Murphy failed standardized field sobriety tests and admitted consuming alcohol prior to driving, the report states. Murphy was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated with open container.
*1:26 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart regarding theft. According to the report, this call led to the arrest of 18-year-old Brandon Lee Abernathy of Bangs for theft equal or greater than $50 less than $500.
*7:14 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1500 block of Terrace Drive regarding the burglary of a vehicle. According to the report, suspects entered the vehicle and a cell phone was stolen. An investigation is ongoing, the report states.
*7:42 PM – Brownwood Police responded to the 1100 block of San Benito regarding animal cruelty. According to the report, the complainant stated that some unknown suspects have been opening the gates of her yard and letting her dogs out. The complainant also stated that it appeared that they apparently beat one of her dogs, the report states.*7:45 PM – A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy made a stop on a vehicle for speeding at the Food Plaza on Southside Drive. According to the report, the driver, identified as 56-year-old Carey Lavan Reese of Brownwood, was showing signs of nervousness (shaky hands and erratic speech), which caused the deputy to believe there may be narcotics in the vehicle. Consent to search the vehicle was denied and the deputy called in the Early K-9 unit. The K-9 officer gave a positive alert on the vehicle and a probable cause search of the vehicle was performed on the vehicle, the report states. During the search, several baggies containing a crystalline substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine were located, according to the report. Due to the manner which the methamphetamine was separated, it was believed Reese was going to attempt to sell the methamphetamine for monetary gain, the deputy stated in his report. Due to the location of the offense being within 1000 feet of the Brownwood ISD Administration Building, Reese was arrested and charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group 1 less than 1 gram in a drug free zone.
*8:08 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart regarding theft. According to the report, upon arrival the officer discovered that three suspects had been detained for shoplifting. The suspects identified as 29-year-old Tiffany Whichel, 22-year-old Sage Medlock, and 28-year-old Dustin Stevenson all of Brownwood were each arrested and charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.
*8:15 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1000 block of Santa Clara Drive regarding a missing wedding ring. According to the report, the complainant advised that her father’s wedding ring had been missing for a few days and they had begun to suspect that a housekeeper may have taken it. A description of the ring was obtained along with limited suspect information, the report states.
*73-year-old Delbert Edwin Bartell of Zephyr turned himself in on a warrant related to cruelty to livestock animals.
*Brownwood Police arrested 21-year-old Juan Robles of Brownwood on a warrant related to two counts motion to revoke theft greater than $1500 less than $20,000.
*Early Police arrested 26-year-old Kimberly Dawn Vaughn of Brownwood for driving while intoxicated and duty on striking unattended vehicle.
Saturday, June 21
*12:28 AM – Brown County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen lawn mower from a property at Ardee Drive a few days prior.
*2:52 PM – Brownwood Police responded to the 1500 block of Austin Avenue, Sonic Drive In, regarding counterfeiting. According to the report, Sonic employees had received a counterfeit $20 bill. There is no suspect and no record of when the $20 was received. The counterfeit bill was only discovered through a shift change money count, the report states. The bill was seized and processed.
Sunday, June 22
*1:37 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Cordell Street regarding a hit and run. According to the report, although limited information was known about the suspect vehicle, an unidentified witness copied a license plate number. The suspect was not located at this time of the report. The victim did want to pursue criminal charges, the report states.
*2:12 AM – Brownwood Police responded to the 700 block of Cordell Street (at Beaver Street) regarding a hit and run accident. According to the report, there was limited information about the suspect vehicle and the suspect was not located at the time of the report. The victim did wish to pursue criminal charges if a suspect can be identified, the report states.
*2:20 AM – Brownwood Police made a traffic stop in the area of Avenue H and Austin Avenue after several traffic violations were observed. According to the report, an investigation determined the driver, identified as 45-year-old Lorie Rene Dixon of Brownwood, to be intoxicated. Dixon was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
*7:38 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2300 block of Belle Plain regarding the theft of a motor vehicle. According to the report, the complainant stated that a suspect had taken his 2001 Ford F-150 without his consent.
*1:27 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1300 block of 14th Street regarding a terroristic threat. According to the report, the complainant advised that he was being threatened by a male subject that kept passing by his residence. The complainant told the responding officer that the male had gotten out of his vehicle and threatened to cause injury to him with a stick. The complainant was in fear for his safety when the male threatened him and wished to pursue charges, the report states.
*5:39 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of LaMonte Drive regarding an assault. According to the report, the victim stated that her relative, identified as 69-year-old Domingo Sanchez of Brownwood, had assaulted and strangled her. An investigation revealed enough probable cause to arrest Sanchez who was charged with assault family violence family/house member impede breath/circulation.
*6:35 PM – Brownwood Police responded to the 1500 block of Davis Lane regarding the burglary of a vehicle. During the investigation, another subject had determined their vehicle had also been burglarized at the location, the report states.
*7:13 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 500 block of 7th Street regarding the burglary of a habitation. According to the report, the home owner advised that several items had been stolen from the residence and the method of entry was unclear. A possible suspect was named, the report states.
*28-year-old Qwayne Delvin Jennings of Brownwood turned himself in on a warrant related to a surety withdrawal for credit/debit card abuse.
*Brownwood Police arrested 44-year-old Bertha Gonzales Ramos of Zephyr for driving while license invalid.
Monday, June 23
*1:20 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart regarding theft. According to the report, the manager of the store reported that, “some unknown suspect made a beer run and stole a 30-pack of beer from inside the store.”
*A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy was called to a vehicle fire on County Road 257. According to the report, a pickup was burning on the side of the road.
