Early Police Department arrested a 44-year-old man on charges of improper photography after he was reported to have taken photographs of young girls at Heartland Mall Friday, June 14th, according to Early Chief of Police David Mercer.
The Early Police Department received a call regarding a male individual taking photographs of young girls inside Heartland Mall, in the 300 block of Early Blvd, on Friday. The Mall staff had been alerted of a man taking photographs with his cell phone, and they immediately notified police and began watching the individual until police arrived, according to Mercer.
Officers made contact with the individual and obtained consent to search his cell phone. The cell phone contained numerous photos of young girls taken at that location that day, stated Mercer. It also contained many photos of other young boys and girls in various other locations around Brownwood and Early in businesses, residences and churches, according to Mercer.
The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Lawren “Larry” Mark Riveire of Early, was taken into custody and charged with improper photography or visual recordings. According to the report, after further examination of the phone, hundreds of pictures have been identified around the area and Early Police Department has identified several children through their parents. Mercer reported that several of the photos are very disturbing indicating that Riveire may have been stalking the children. Riveire was being held in lieu of $10,000 bond as of Monday morning.
“At this time no evidence has been found where he has assaulted any child. He has admitted to having child pornography on the phone that he downloaded from the internet, but due to the amount of pictures and videos, that has not been located yet,” explained Mercer. “We will be having a forensic examination done on the phone and if child pornography is located, he will be charged with possession of child pornography.”
Mercer praised the staff of Heartland Mall and warned the public to be aware of their surroundings and watchful of their children.
“I would like to praise the mall staff that initially reported the incident, for taking quick and aggressive action on stopping this and looking out for their customers,” said Mercer. “I would also like to remind everyone that while living in smaller towns we sometimes think this will not happen here, but no one is immune from these crimes. We all have to be alert to our surroundings and who is near our children.”
