Early Police responded to a suspicious call of a man hiding in trees between houses on Lucas Drive on Tuesday morning which led to the arrest of a Brownwood man, according to Early Chief of Police David Mercer.
Around 9:00 AM, responding officers located the male who then fled on foot, through several yards and attempted to enter some homes along the way where residents were present, Mercer said. The suspect also tried to escape on a 4-wheeler; however, he could not figure out how to start it, Mercer stated.
Several other units from Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Public Safety arrived to assist in the chase, which was then continued into a field, said Mercer. The suspect charged at officers and was tased. After being tased, the suspect collapsed and was taken to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center by Guardian EMS, according to Mercer.
The suspect was identified as David Moreno of Brownwood. According to Mercer, he was treated and then released to be taken to the Brown County Jail. He was charged with evading arrest, fail to identify and attempted burglary of a habitation.
According to Mercer, it was later learned that Moreno had been using methamphetamine and was hallucinating, “believing that the Cartel was after him causing him to run into the neighborhood hiding in yards.”

Friday, May 24
*4:06 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart, 401 W. Commerce, regarding trespassing. According to the report, the call led to the arrest of 25-year-old David Wayne Hersha of Bangs, who had an active trespass warning for the property. Hersha was arrested for criminal trespass.
* 5:21 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 2500 block of Greenway Drive regarding the burglary of a vehicle. According to the report, the complainant stated that sometime in the overnight hours, an unknown subject entered the complainant’s unlocked vehicle and stole $75 cash, a wallet containing credit cards and an iPod valued at $200. The complainant wished to pursue charges, the report states.
*7:40 PM – Brownwood Police responded to Wal-Mart regarding theft. According to the report, the male subject detained was issued a citation and released from scene.
*10:42 PM – Brownwood Police made a traffic stop regarding a defective license plate light. According to the report, the stop led to the arrest of 32-year-old Eustaquio Almazan Gonzales, Jr. of Dallas for an outstanding warrant for motion to revoke-assault family violence enhanced. The passenger of the vehicle was issued a citation for open container, the report states.
*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old Brittany Quinn Abel of Abilene for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 equal or greater than 4 grams less than 200 grams and possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.
*The Brownwood City Marshal arrested 25-year-old Rebecca Bacon for public intoxication.
*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34-year-old Shannon Diane Botello of Coleman on an Erath County warrant for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 and on a Brown County indictment for possession of a controlled substance penalty group one/19 months State Jail.
*17-year-old Jessica M. McClurg, Texas Juvenile Justice Department, turned herself in on a warrant related to assault on a public servant.
Saturday, May 25
*12:30 AM – Early Police officer Andres Contreras observed a vehicle driving without his headlights and in a reckless manner in the 1300 block of Early Blvd. According to the report, the officer attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the vehicle fled and continued to drive on the wrong side of the road for several blocks. Officer Contreras was able to stop the vehicle at Mistletoe and Longhorn Drive where Early Police officers determined the driver to be intoxicated after he failed further roadside sobriety tests, the report states. Officers then obtained a search warrant for his blood and took him the Brownwood Regional Medical Center where a blood sample was taken. The driver, identified as 40-year-old James Daniel Willhelm of Early, was booked into the Brown County Jail for driving while intoxicated.
*6:36 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Coggin Avenue, Allsup’s, regarding theft. According to the report, the store clerk advised that a young white male approximately 6 feet tall and driving a gray four door passenger car (possibly a Nissan Altima) pumped $47.50 in gas and then drove off without paying.
*8:28 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the area of Austin Avenue/Booker Street regarding suspicious activity.
*22-year-old Michael Anthony Mallone turned himself in on a warrant for burglary of a habitation.
*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 20-year-old Caleb McKenzie of Pflugerville for possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces in a drug free zone.
Sunday, May 26
*1:25 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center emergency room regarding an aggravated assault. According to the report, the victim advised that her stepfather had run over her leg with his vehicle and drove away. The victim suffered a broken ankle and minor scrapes and bruises.
*11:05 AM – Brownwood Police were called to Wal-Mart, 401 W. Commerce, regarding theft. According to the report, the reporting party stated that a female, later identified as 31-year-old Desiree Michelle Henson, had been observed attempting to leave the store without paying for merchandise totaling $240.98. Store management wished to pursue charges and Henson was arrested for theft of property equal or greater than $50 less than $500.
*1:04 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 4300 block of 4th Street regarding criminal mischief. According to the report, the complainant stated that someone had painted graffiti on his house. Vulgar and obscene words were painted across the front windows and on the front siding of the house with black paint or shoe polish, the report states. The writing appeared to still be wet and a neighbor stated that they did not notice the writing earlier that morning, the report states. A suspect was named; however no arrest was made at the time of the report.
*1:50 PM – Brownwood Police responded to the 600 block of Center Avenue regarding a hit and run. According to the report, a vehicle struck the complainant’s vehicle while leaving the parking lot. Damage to the vehicle’s grill guard was estimated at $300, the report states.
*3:41 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart, 401 W. Commerce, regarding criminal trespass. As a result of this call, 23-year-old Neva Marie Mata Hays was arrested for criminal trespass.
*10:43 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Main Street, which resulted in a subject being issued a criminal trespass warning for the property.
*Brownwood Police arrested 23-year-old Rayna Danielle Leach for failure to appear/class C.
*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 32-year-old Sara Jo Day Newton of Bangs for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 gram and on a warrant related to theft of property greater than $20 less than $500 by check/probation.
* Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 46-year-old Gable Ramirez Sanchez for driving while intoxicated.
Monday, May 27
*8:15 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of W. Commerce regarding an assault. According to the report, the victim told the responding officer that he had been assaulted by Jerry Tucker. Based on the evidence at the scene, 57-year-old Jerry Robert Tucker of Bangs was arrested for assault causes bodily injury, the report states.
*12:44 PM – Brownwood Police responded to the 2000 block of Austin Avenue regarding the theft of a cell phone.
*3:19 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 400 block of Main Street regarding harassment by telephone. According to the report, the complainant advised that an unknown person texted her 27 times in the last 22 hours in spite of her repeated requests that they stop.
*4:39 PM – Brownwood Police responded to the 1700 block of Magnolia Street regarding a domestic disturbance. The suspect and complainant were both interviewed by the responding officer; however, no arrest was made.
*5:53 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 700 block of Almond Street regarding an assault. According to the report, the complainant stated that one of her foster children had been assaulted by another foster child. An investigation determined that 17-year-old Rocky Hasty was the aggressor and he was subsequently arrested and charged with assault causes bodily injury family violence, the report states.
*31-year-old Rachel Baker Anderson turned herself in on a warrant for manufacture deliver controlled substance.
*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 24-year-old Ray Garcia of Pflugerville for possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces and driving while license invalid with previous convictions/suspension.
*Brownwood Police arrested 18-year-old Stevie Moore on a warrant related to bail jumping/failure to appear/assault bodily injury.
Tuesday, May 28
*2:31 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1500 block of Terrace Drive regarding a domestic disturbance. An investigation led to the arrest of a male subject, identified as 24-year-old Enrique Guadalupe Ortega III, for assault family violence.
*12:57 PM – Brownwood Police made a traffic stop in the 800 block of Malone Street regarding failure to signal a turn. According to the report, during the stop the driver of the vehicle, identified as 34-year-old Jeffery Paul Lynn, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Lynn was arrested for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 gram in a drug free zone.
*Early Police arrested 28-year-old Felix Ramos Barbosa for driving while license invalid with previous convictions/suspension.
*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 44-year-old William Madere for driving while license suspended.
*Brownwood Police arrested 49-year-old Jose Antonio Silva on warrants for no driver’s license and violate promise to appear.
