Brownwood Police responded to the report of a missing child in the 700 block of Avenue G on Thursday at approximately 5:00pm.

According to the report, the child and his family were visiting their grandmother when the child apparently wandered away.  A neighbor reported seeing a small child walking down the road toward Austin Avenue, possibly turning toward an alleyway.

Officers followed this lead and within 10 minutes, found the boy in an attached storage closet of a residence nearby, crying.  The sound of the boy’s crying alerted the officer who followed the sound, located the boy and reunited him with this family.

The boy was found very quickly, which was a nice story with a happy ending, according to Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley.

“A 2-year-old found within 10 minutes was awesome,” stated Corley.
