Brownwood Police Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office, in a cooperative effort, made drug related arrests after an investigation and two search warrants being executed.
BCSO Investigator Carlyle Gover stated that narcotics officers from both BPD and BCSO had been working on a lengthy investigation of a sizeable group of individuals suspected of drug trafficking. According to Gover, Brownwood Narcotics Officer Aaron Taylor has been leading the investigation with several BPD and BCSO officers which culminated in the simultaneous execution of two search warrants of residences in Brownwood early Wednesday morning. BCSO executed the warrants with the assistance of Taylor in the 300 block of Bluffview and a home in the 1700 block of First Street, Gover said. Two individuals were suspected of participation in the possession and/or distribution of methamphetamine. At the apartment on Bluffview, evidence of drug distribution was found including scales and packaging but no arrests were made, according to Gover. At the conclusion of the operation, 20-year-old Sonia Rios and 22-year-old Jason Rosas were both arrested at the residence on First Street, each charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Grade 1 less than 1 gram.
Prior to these arrests, Taylor and Gover conducted a traffic stop at an intersection in the north part of Brownwood Tuesday night around 6:30pm. During the stop, the driver consented to having her vehicle searched where a quantity of methamphetamine was discovered, according to police reports. The driver, 35-year-old Angela Marie Phillips, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance less than 1 gram in a Drug Free Zone.
According to Gover, the investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected in the near future.
Both Gover and officials from Brownwood Police Department stated that the investigation was a success and an example of great cooperation between agencies.
“The best thing about the investigation was that we really worked together well, the investigations from both agencies came together seamlessly with no egos, just focused on putting crooks in jail,” said Gover.
Taylor stated in an email to BCSO officials that he appreciated the help BCSO provided in the execution of the search warrants overnight and that the BCSO employees were a “pristine example of inter-agency cooperation.”
“As always, your agency and its employees selflessly, professionally, and willingly assisted our agency with enthusiasm and without complaint,” said Taylor in the email. “As we all know, drug enforcement is pervasive and does not distinguish between respective agency lines.”
