firedepartmentarrest13Brownwood Police arrested a Brown County man Tuesday afternoon at the Brownwood Central Fire Station when a woman stopped to ask firefighters for help after she reported that a man was following her after a near-accident.

After nearly being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of W. Commerce and Belle Plain, the woman said that the other vehicle began to follow her so she stopped at the fire station for help.

According to the police report, the Brownwood Fire Department asked for EMS and a police officer at approximately 5:51 on Tuesday, May 21.  Upon the officer’s arrival, he spoke to the female victim who told of the incident and then being followed by the suspect male in the brown passenger car.  According to the report, the male, later identified as 24-year-old Scott Lewis Stuart of Blanket, was parked across the street at Ricardo’s restaurant parking lot.

The woman told police that the suspect vehicle followed her down W. Austin and she initially pulled into Ricardo’s to allow the other vehicle to pass her after it almost rear ended her.  The report states that Stuart followed her into the lot and she proceeded to drive around the restaurant three times as the man continued to follow her, the report states.  She then drove to the fire department across the street where she told one of the firefighters that she was being chased by the male driver and she did not know why or who he was.  Stuart parked his car at Ricardo’s and attempted to get out, falling onto the ground before walking across the street to the fire station, the report states.

After officers arrived, Stuart was taken into custody and read his Miranda rights in the back seat of a patrol car. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated 3rd or more, according to the report.   A blood warrant was issued and the suspect was taken to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center for a blood specimen before his eventual transport to the Brown County Jail, the report states.
