Brownwood Police responded to the report of an assault in the 3700 block of Savoy on Thursday night where officers were informed that a suspect fled the scene toward a wooded area.

EMS was called to treat the victim who had already left the scene with friends who drove him to the emergency room.  The responding officers walked into the wooded area to find the subject who had fled after the physical altercation.  After walking about two tenths of a mile into the wooded area, officers were able to surround several subjects they found drinking alcohol.  Of the nine subjects, two were under aged.

According to a witness to the assault, the victim had approached the suspect and put his hands on the suspect’s neck area.  The suspect then began wildly striking the victim several times, according to the report.  No other subjects on scene would talk about the incident and claimed to have seen nothing.

When officers spoke with the suspect, he said he hadn’t gotten into a fight with anyone and had no knowledge of the incident.  Officers observed that the suspect did have a small cut on his fist, but no marks on his neck.

According to police, one officer went to the emergency room to talk to the victim who had little to say other than positively identifying the suspect.  The victim denied ever laying a hand on the suspect and said that he wished to pursue charges against the suspect for the assault the report states.

Officers also spoke with a relative of the victim in hopes to get sober information about the incident.  The relative did speak of a previous incident which could have offended the suspect and been a reason for the fight, the report states.

Several pictures of the victim’s wounds were processed into evidence as well as the victim’s injury assessment at the hospital.

As of the report, there were no arrests; however charges are pending.
