Law enforcement reports released on April 14 – 15, 2011.
Wednesday, April 13
*10:00am-Brownwood Police were called regarding someone being threatened with a gun. According to the report, it was found that the incident occurred in the 1000 block of Vine Street. After an investigation was completed, 17-year-old Manuel Edward Mantos was arrested for Terroristic Threat, Possession of Marijuana less than 2 oz in a Drug Free Zone and for an outstanding warrant for Failure to Attend School.
*11:23am-Brownwood officers met with a reporting party who wanted to disclose information regarding possible tax fraud or evasion. According to police the subject provided information on a location business where she had previously worked along with documentation of being paid case without record. The information is being relayed to the Internal Revenue Service for further investigation.
*11:41am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1300 block of Avenue K regarding theft. Information on scene led to the investigation of theft of medication.
*1:23pm-Brownwood Police responded to 401 W. Commerce, Wal-Mart, where a reported shoplifter was being detained. According to the report, the subject identified as 38-year-old Pennie Lawson was found to have exited the store with a large quantity of items concealed in a purse. Lawson was arrested and charged with theft equal or greater than $50 and less than $500 and issued a criminal trespass warning for the property.
*2:00pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 1400 block of Vine Street regarding an assault. The complainant stated that she had been assaulted a few days prior and wanted to pursue charges the report states. A report was generated.
*3:00pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 1900 block of 8th Street regarding theft. According to the report, a suspect is known and the investigation is ongoing for the theft of approximately 30 pieces of sterling silver dinnerware with an estimated value of $1500.
*6:15pm-Brownwood Police responded to Kings Cellular at 403 N. Main Street regarding suspicious activity. According to the report, dispatch informed officers that the clerk believed three subjects stole from the store. The subjects were located in the 200 block of W. Commerce. When pulling up, the officer noticed the subjects drop items in the grass the report states. The officer located these items and then questioned the subjects. The investigation determined that the three had stolen the items from Wal-Mart and that they were attempting to sell them to Kings Cellular and EZ Pawn according to police reports. The three males were arrested and charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and Theft Equal or Greater than $50 and Less than $500. One of the males had an out of county warrant for his arrest as well.
*8:02pm-A Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the Zephyr Trading Post regarding a theft that had occurred. According to the report, an investigation determined that a suspect had broken a window to gain access to the property and three saddles were stolen from the property. The business was also rummaged through during the theft.
*10:23pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of 3rd Street regarding a burglary. According to the report, the complainant reported that between the hours of 4:00pm and 8:30pm someone had entered his unsecured vehicle and removed his wallet. No suspect information was available at the time of the report.
*11:35pm-Brownwood Police responded to a residence on Avenue D regarding a welfare check. According to the report, the male was determined to be possibly suicidal and was holding a gun. The subject was transported to the hospital for evaluation. The gun was placed into evidence at BPD for safekeeping.
Thursday, April 14
*12:05am-Brownwood Police made a traffic stop on a vehicle at 8th and Brady which led to the search of the vehicle and its occupants after all three gave verbal consent according to reports. According to police, one occupant, a 20-year-old male was asked to take off his boots and said, “Well I have this” and handed off a small round clear screw top container that held a white powdery substance. The male claimed it was “salt” that he smokes, obtained from a local convenience store the report states. The substance was field tested which gave a positive for a cocaine base according to police. The powder was seized and placed into evidence. The officer has requested the substance be sent to the crime lab for positive identification and no arrest has been made at this time.
*1:52pm-Brownwood Police were called to Howard Payne University regarding an incident of criminal mischief. According to the report, the complainant’s tire had been slashed and the names of two suspects were provided. Four finger prints were able to be lifted from the vehicle and are believed to belong to the suspect the report states. Charges are being filed and the investigation is ongoing.
3:21pm-Brownwood Police met with a complainant regarding a civil matter. Information led to the investigation of identification theft.
*4:17pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 2100 block of 9th Street regarding found property. According to the report, the complainant told officers that he had found a rifle inside his residence and did not know where it had come from. The rifle was taken to BPD for safekeeping until an owner can be determined.
Friday, April 15
*2:20am-Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Bluffview regarding a domestic disturbance. This call led to the arrest of 24-year-old Tabitha Jo Carter and 44-year-old Joanne Carrier for Assault Family Violence.
*9:10pm-Brownwood Police received a report of found property. The reporting party found a wallet near the Bill Monroe Overpass. No contact numbers for the owner were located so the wallet was placed into the evidence room at BPD for safe keeping until it can be claimed.
*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 30-year-old Jamie Renne Seale for Driving While Intoxicated 1st.
