Brownwood Police were called to the Ranger Beauty College in Downtown Brownwood at 7:34am Tuesday, April 12 regarding a burglary that had occurred overnight.  Police reports indicate that the director of the college along with one of the instructors found the back door open and the building ransacked upon their arrival. 

According to police reports, evidence revealed that the suspects tried to use a piece of green metal to pry open a door which they eventually kicked open to gain entry.  There was damage to several other pieces of property.   A gumball machine was broken when the suspects used it to pry open a filing cabinet.   The suspects also broke into metal and wooden lockers during the incident the report states.

There did not appear to be anything missing other than possibly the money from the broken gumball machine police stated.   Offices were ransacked in what police believe was an attempt to find money.

This was not the first time the Ranger Beauty College has been burglarized; over the past four years there have been three burglaries including this incident.   Dates of the prior burglaries were December 2008 and August 2009.

There were no arrests or suspects at the time of the report and the investigation is ongoing.

Thursday, April 7

*5:05pm-Brownwood Police were received a report of a computer security breech.  According to the report, the complainant stated that she believed her ex-boyfriend “hacked” into her Facebook account and posted vulgar images and sayings about her.  An informational report was taken.

Monday, April 11

*12:11am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1300 block of Avenue A regarding theft.  The complainant stated that a bicycle had been stolen from the side of her residence the report states.

*3:01pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Commerce regarding found property.  According to the report, the complainant stated he found a bicycle that had been abandoned behind the business.  The bicycle was taken to the BPD impound for safe keeping until the owner can properly identify it.

*3:14pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 1500 block of Terrace Drive regarding an assault.  According to the report, the complainant stated that her ex-boyfriend kicked in her back door and assaulted her the night before.  The complainant had minor injuries and there was damage to the apartment’s back door; however, no criminal charges are being pursued, the report states.

*10:37pm-Brownwood Police responded to the intersection of 4th and Slayden Streets regarding a possible vehicle accident.  Officers located a vehicle in a grassy field in the 2000 block of Slayden Street.  The vehicle was stuck on a fence post.  According to the report, officers made contact with the driver, 36-year-old Jose Romero of Rising Star, who was found to be intoxicated after failing sobriety tests.  Romero was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated 1st.

*Early Police arrested 36-year-old Jerry Gordon Burch of Early for Driving While License Invalid/Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.

* Brownwood Police arrested 56-year-old John Daniel May of Early for Public Intoxication.

*Brownwood Police arrested 21-year-old Kyle Wayne Teague of Early for Manufacture Delivery of Controlled Substance not in Penalty Grade in Drug Free Zone.

*Brownwood Police received a report that bicycles were stolen from a patio of a residence in the 1800 block of Slayden Street.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call regarding trash that had been thrown out at the bridge on Walnut Street.  The items included paperwork, a back pack, trash can, a tote and other items.  During an investigation, the owner of the trash was identified and it was found that the trash was not illegal dumping but property from a storage unit burglary the report states.  At the time of the report, it was unknown what items were missing from the storage unit other than possibly some fishing rods.

Tuesday, April 12

*9:33am-Brownwood Police were called to 401 W. Commerce, Wal-Mart, regarding a found bicycle.  The reporting party stated that the bicycle was found near the shopping carts at the entrance of the general merchandise side of the store.  A check to see if the bicycle was stolen came back clear.  The bicycle was place into the impound at BPD for safe keeping until the owner can properly identify it.

*3:30pm-Brownwood Police received a report from a teacher at Brownwood High School regarding a bone that was found by students in a field adjacent to the BHS baseball fields.  According to the report, the class had gone outside to the field in order to do an experiment when some of the students found what they called “a cool bone”.  Police report stated that initially, the teacher did not think anything of the bone until returning to the classroom where students compared the bone to the replica human skeleton.  The officer on duty at BHS was shown the bone, which he then took to Brownwood Regional Medical Center to see if a doctor could identify the species of the bone.  One of the doctors came to the conclusion that the certainty of the bone being human could not be proven at this time and that it could easily be the femur bone of a young animal due to its having visible growth plates the report states.  The bone was placed into evidence at Brownwood Police Department and an investigation is ongoing.

*3:53pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Bluffview Drive regarding theft.  According to the report, the complainant reported that someone had stolen the 5 gallon propane tank from his grill.

*5:30pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2600 block of Vine Street regarding the burglary of a habitation.  According to the report, the complainant stated that his residence had been broken into and several items were stolen.  At the time of the report, no arrest had been made; however, suspect information was obtained and the incident is under investigation. 

*7:11pm-Brownwood police responded to the 300 block of E. Commerce, Big Lots, regarding a lost purse.  According to the report, the complainant stated that she had left her purse in a shopping cart and felt it was now stolen.  In store surveillance showed a possible suspect; however there weren’t any parking lot cameras to show the purse being taken.

*10:09pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of 13th Street regarding a hit and run.  The complainant stated that she had parked in the street and that her neighbor parked behind her, also in the street.  According to the report, the complainant stated when the neighbor pulled into the roadway and she struck the complainant’s vehicle causing approximately $100 damage; then left the scene.  The officer attempted to make contact with the named suspect; however no one was available at the suspect’s residence.

All arrestees are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
