Brownwood Police met with a complainant at the Law Enforcement Center around 4:00pm on Tuesday, April 10th regarding a former employee who had stolen from the 83-year-old complainant.
According to the police report, the suspect was hired to work on a vehicle the complainant owned and had agreed to fix the engine of the vehicle for $350. The complainant bought approximately $700 in parts from a local auto parts dealer and left the parts with the suspect, the report states.
The complainant provided the officer with a signed and notarized affidavit (dated 2/13/12) that stated the suspect had taken the parts and returned them to the auto parts dealer and then used the money for his own personal gain, according to the report. The affidavit stated that the suspect agreed to return a total of $2400 (which included the value of the vehicle to be repaired and the parts) at the amount of $200/month until the balance was paid off. In return the complainant would not criminally prosecute the suspect, the report states.
According to police, the complainant also reported that on Saturday, April 7th, he had confronted the suspect about the payments and the suspect told him that he would “beat you to a pulp, don’t you ever come near me again.” The complainant stated that the suspect has had past violent episodes and that he felt in fear of his life at that time and would like to pursue charges against the suspect for Terroristic Threat.
A suspect was named and a warrant will be sought for the subject.

Monday, April 9
*8:00am-A Brownwood Police officer, while on duty at Brownwood High School, received a report from a complainant that her iPod Touch had been stolen from her backpack while she was in the cafeteria on Wednesday, April 4th.
*9:37am-Brownwood Police were called to the 1500 block of Main Blvd regarding the burglary of a habitation. According to the report, three bottles of prescription medication had been stolen from the residence.
*4:55pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2400 block of Monterrey regarding theft. According to the report, the complainant stated that some of his check books had been stolen from his residence and that two checks had been cashed; however the complainant showed records to officers that no money had been transferred out of the account and he did not wish to pursue charges at the time of the report.
*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 36-year-old Benny Jacob Martinez of Pflugerville for Failure to Identify Fugitive, Driving While License Invalid, and on an outstanding Travis County warrant.
Tuesday, April 10
*2:04am-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Melwood regarding a noise nuisance. According to the report, an investigation led to the arrest of 22-year-old Lauren Stacey Kersey for the Possession of Marijuana Less than 2 ounces.
*11:50am-Brownwood Police were called to the 3500 block of 1st Street regarding forgery. The complainant stated that someone had used his social security number and other information to file an income tax return under his name, the report states.
*12:24pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2300 block of Durham Avenue regarding criminal mischief. According to the report, the complainant stated that someone had “keyed” her vehicle during the hours between 8:00pm April 8th and 7:30am April 9th.
*12:43pm-Brownwood Police were called to the Wal-Mart parking lot regarding a hit and run accident. According to the report, the complainant stated the accident happened while he was inside the store. No suspect information was available at the time of the report.
*2:54pm-A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop on Hwy 67/84 for a traffic violation. According to the report, the driver, identified as 26-year-old Rebecca Leigh Vasquez, was acting nervous. When stories from Vasquez and the passenger had discrepancies, consent to search the vehicle was obtained and during the search, Vasquez indicated that she had cut her hand and needed an ambulance, the report states. EMS responded to the location of the stop and attended to Vasquez, the officers’ report indicated that the cut was superficial and not life threatening and could be treated with a Band-Aid. The search of the vehicle found 0.5grams of methamphetamine in a wallet which contained several identification cards belonging to Vasquez, reports state. Vasquez was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. During transport, the officer noticed Vasquez moving around and stating that she was going to be sick, the report states. According to the report, upon arrival, the deputy found a large piece of methamphetamine in the seat where Vasquez had been sitting and two crushed-up pieces in the floorboard. Vasquez admitted that the pieces of methamphetamine were hers and that she had hid them in her bra when the deputy stopped her, according to the report. Vasquez was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Grade 1, less than 1 gram and Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence.
2:57pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 2100 block of Slayden Drive, Brownwood High School regarding theft. According to the report, the complainant’s school laptop computer was taken from his athletics locker. Investigation determined that the theft occurred on Wednesday between 3:00pm and 3:45pm while the juvenile was in the gym.
*3:43pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart regarding found property. Reported was a found bicycle abandoned in the ditch near Wal-Mart. The bicycle was secured in the Brownwood Police bicycle impound for safe keeping until it can be properly claimed and identified.
*4:16pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 900 block of W. Baker regarding a subject who was “causing problems at the residence.” The complainant was intoxicated but indicated that he was assaulted by his nephew, 21-year-old Jonathan Travis Clifton, the report states. Clifton had left the residence but returned a short time later. He was charged with Criminal Mischief for breaking the windshield of vehicle and also Assault Causing Bodily Injury Family Violence By Occlusion.
*4:48pm-Brownwood Police were called to the Wal-Mart parking lot regarding the burglary of a vehicle and theft of a firearm. According to the report, the complainant’s .38 special revolver valued at $450 was stolen from the vehicle.
*7:40pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 3500 block of 2nd Street regarding the burglary of a habitation. According to the report, forced entry was made into the home and a Playstation 3 along with an electric guitar was stolen.
*8:35pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Quail Run regarding the burglary of a habitation. According to the report, the complainant stated that sometime during the day, someone made entry into the garage and stole a bicycle and a cordless drill.
*8:58pm-Brownwood Police received the report of a lost wallet. According to the report, the wallet was believed to be lost in the 1700 block of Good Shepherd around midnight Saturday April 7th.
*9:21pm-Brownwood Police were called to the area of Avenue J and Vine Street regarding an assault. According to the report, the complainant stated that her boyfriend had assaulted her with her own vehicle, drove her to another location, then fled the scene just prior to officers’ arrival.
Wednesday, April 11
*2:00am-Brownwood Police located a BMX style bicycle lying in a ditch in the 1200 block of Cordell Street. The bicycle was taken to the BPD bike impound.
All arrestees are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
