HoodJasonAn afternoon traffic stop on Saturday, March 30th resulted in the arrest of a Santa Anna man on charges related to child pornography, according to law enforcement officials.

Early Police Chief David Mercer said that at 1:15 pm Saturday, Officer Haile made a traffic stop on a vehicle where the driver pulled into the motel parking lot where he was staying. Officer Haile made contact with the driver, identified as 38-year-old Jason Hood of Santa Anna, and found that his driver’s license was suspended, the report states.

Hood was asked if he had anything illegal on him and replied he didn’t have anything; however he voluntarily insisted that Officer Haile search his car, room, phone and whatever he had, according to Mercer.  Officer Haile searched the car and room and located drug paraphernalia and a container with a small amount of a powdery substance, the report states. The substance was tested and found to be methamphetamine Mercer said.

According to the report, Officer Haile checked a cell phone in Hood’s possession and located numerous photos of child pornography including photos of young girls from an average age of 3 years to 10 years old.  Mercer stated that all of the photos were of children posing in a provocative sexual manner and several of the photos were of young females being sexually abused.

Hood was charged with the possession of controlled substance and produce/direct/promote sexual performance of a child pending further investigation. The investigation is continuing and a search warrant will be obtained to check further into to phone and view other photos and videos in an attempt to possibly identify any of the children Mercer reported.  Hood is being held in Brown County Jail on bonds totaling $60,000.

*6:37 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1500 block of Terrace Drive regarding a terroristic threat.  According to the report, the complainant stated that a co-worker had threatened to kill her for trying to get her in trouble with their boss.

Thursday, March 28

*11:18 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Bluffview regarding the theft of a dog.

*11:55 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Bluffview regarding identification theft.  According to the report, the suspect used the stolen identity to set up a dish network account.

*12:20 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 2800 block of Cleburne Street regarding a possible sexual assault that had occurred within the last year.  The incident is under investigation.

*2:45 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Bluffview Drive regarding theft.  According to the report, a purse, approximately $10, an iPhone 3 and various cosmetic products were stolen.

*3:45 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2500 block of Songbird Circle regarding harassment.  According to the report, the complainant reported that a person identifying himself to be with a loan company had been calling the telephones at the business for approximately an hour and a half.  The caller had the ability to cause all the telephone lines to ring simultaneously, disrupting the business’ ability to effectively operate.

*Brownwood Police arrested Kimberly Boland for resist arrest search or transport; interfere with public duties, assault threat or offensive touch family member, and threat or offensive touch.

*18-year-old Dillon Cromeans of Austin turned himself in on a warrant for his arrest related to credit/debit card abuse.

*Bangs Police arrested 26-year-old Joseph Chance Hyles of Bangs on three warrants for his arrest related to speeding 10% or more above posted, violate promise to appear, and driving while license suspended.

*Brownwood Police arrested 33-year-old Timothy James Ingram for assault causes bodily injury family violence.

*Brownwood Police arrested 38-year-old John Laurence of Abilene on a warrant related to fraud-insufficient funds check.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 57-year-old Robert Lee Scribner for assault causes bodily injury family violence.

Friday, March 29

*2:04 AM – Brownwood Police made a traffic stop in the 900 block of Avenue D.  According to the report, one of the occupants, 23-year-old Seaver Ray Roper, Jr., was arrested and charged with failure to identify fugitive false ID and two warrants related to burglary of a vehicle in Brown County and motion to revoke probation related to fail to ID out of McCullough County.

*2:35 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Bluffview regarding a domestic disturbance.  According to the report, the call led to the arrest of 36-year-old Gilbert Gonzales for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon family violence.

*9:13 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Slayden at the request of Brownwood High School administration to accompany them to search a student who was believed to be in possession of marijuana.  According to the report, the student was found to be in possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.  The juvenile was transported to the police department and processed then taken to the juvenile detention center’s custody, the report states.

*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 49-year-old Jimmy Berglan of Hobbs, New Mexico for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 greater or equal to 1 gram less than 4 grams.

Saturday, March 30

*3:12 AM – Brownwood Police responded to the 1500 block of Belle Plain regarding an assault. According to the report, the call led to the arrest of three people, 25-year-old William Joseph Meyer; 26-year-old Kristopher Scott Squyres, and 26-year-old Larry Anthony Livingston each charged with burglary of a habitation and engage in organized criminal activity.  The victims indicated that the suspects entered into their home and started assaulting them while they were still sleeping in bed, the report states.

*8:19 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of Austin Avenue, Coggin Park, regarding criminal mischief.  According to the report, contact was made with city employees who stated that sometime in the overnight hours of Friday night and Saturday morning, an unknown subject (s) painted swastikas in the restrooms, on park tables, trash cans and trees.  The amount of the cleanup is estimated to be $200.00, the report states.  The City of Brownwood does wish to pursue criminal charges if a suspect(s) can be identified.  No arrests had been made at the time of the report.

* 9:00 AM – Early Police responded to Eastwind Drive to a disturbance call. According to the report, the male stated he and a female were arguing while at a friend’s house where the female started striking him in the face with her fist multiple times. The pair continued arguing on the way home where the assault continued resulting in the male picking up and throwing the female to the ground at least twice, according to the report. The female stated that the male also grabbed her around the neck and strangled her on a couple of occasions causing her to black out, the report states.  Both parties were extremely intoxicated according to police. The male, identified as 31-year-old Jeffrey Rain Lemons of Early was arrested for assault family violence by strangulation and the female, identified as 25-year-old Tiffany Ann Squires of Early was arrested for assault family violence.

*4:20 PM – Brownwood Police were called to 401 W. Commerce, Wal-Mart, regarding theft.  According to the report, the complainant advised that three unknown suspects stole several items of merchandise from the store and fled the scene when he attempted to stop them.  Recovered items left by the suspects when they fled were returned to the store and a surveillance tape was obtained in an attempt to identify the suspects, the report states.  According to the report, items stolen/recovered included shampoo, body wash, hand sanitizer, a fixed blade knife, music CDs, 2 Cokes and several small miscellaneous items, valued at approximately $216.00.

*9:00 PM – According to Early Police Chief David Mercer, 32-year-old Serina Michelle Crockett was arrested for public intoxication at a local motel after officers responded to disturbance call. Crockett had hired a cab to get a ride home then got into a dispute with the cab driver, according to Mercer’s report. When officers arrived, Crockett tried to run by entering the motel office and ran into the manager’s residential part. Sgt Steven Means tackled Crockett and placed her under arrest for public intoxication.

*11:14 PM – Brownwood Police made a traffic stop in the area of 1st Street and Parkway for failing to signal a turn and for not having a front license plate.  The stop led to a citation being issued to the driver for minor driving under the influence and a citation to another occupant of the vehicle for minor in consumption.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30-year-old Jesse Ray Markham of Cross Plains for possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.

*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 32-year-old Melissa Ramirez of Lubbock for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 gram drug free zone, possession of marijuana less than or equal to 2 grams drug free zone.

*Bangs Police arrested 21-year-old Camon Kirk Seider for unlawful carrying weapon and driving while intoxicated.

Sunday, March 31

* 1:50 AM –An Early Police officer stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of Gorman Drive for weaving back and forth in the lane of traffic.  Upon further investigation the driver, identified as 26-year-old Yannsiha Yim of Early, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, the report states.

*2:43 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 300 block of N. Main Street regarding theft.  According to the report, a theft from Kroger was reported to police and a description of the suspect vehicle was provided along with the license plate number.  The vehicle was intercepted and the suspect was identified and issued a citation for theft less than $50, the report states. The product was recovered and returned to the store according to law enforcement.

*10:36 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Avenue G regarding a burglary of a vehicle.  According to the report, the complainant stated that at approximately 3:00 AM this date, a subject was observed inside the car and approximately 16 CDs were stolen.

*10:51 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the 500 block of E. Commerce Street regarding a domestic disturbance.  According to the report, officers arrived to find that both subjects involved in the disturbance had already left the premises.  Officers were able to locate the subjects and after an investigation, both parties were issued a notice of family violence form and a report has been filed for possible prosecution, the report states.

*3:30 PM – According to Early Police Chief David Mercer, an EPD officer responded to a convenience store where the clerk stated a male know to them as 58-year-old Paul Challenger of Early came into the store wearing only short underwear and a t- shirt wanting to purchase alcohol. According to the report, the male left the store and was located riding his bike in the middle of the highway and was questioned by the officer.  When Challenger became belligerent and began yelling obscenities, the officer placed him under arrest for public intoxication, the report states.

*Brownwood Police arrested 31-year-old Eugene Michael Beard, who was charged with two counts of injury to a child/elderly/disabled with intent to do bodily injury; assault causes bodily injury family violence and assault causes bodily injury.

*Brownwood Police arrested 38-year-old Alejandra Hall for public intoxication.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26-year-old Jessica Elizabeth Parsons for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 gram and two counts of possession of a controlled substance penalty group 3 less than 28 grams.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 56-year-old Denise Ann Steward of Sidney for driving while intoxicated 3rd or more.
