Brownwood TX carney_johnA Brownwood man was arrested Monday afternoon when he ran after being involved in a minor two-vehicle accident.  The Brownwood City Marshal witnessed a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 4th Street and Avenue K shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4th.  According to the report, as the marshal was with both vehicles, he called out to dispatch that one of the drivers was fleeing on foot, running in the alley between 4th Street and 6th Street.

Other officers arrived to assist in apprehending the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old John Carney, police reports state.  As the foot pursuit came into the 1800 block of 7th Street, the officer and Carney rounded the side of a house where they were met by a large pit bulldog.

According to the report, Carney refused to follow the officer’s command to drop to the ground and instead became defensive.  The officer took out his Taser, ordering him to the ground or he would be tased, the report states.  Carney took a step toward the officer and then turned toward the house and was tased, according to the report.  He continued to ignore commands to stay on the ground and was tased two more times by the officer, according to the report.

Carney struggled as officers handcuffed him and they found a small container in his hand that he would not let go of until the officer pried it loose and found it to contain a substance believed to be methamphetamine, the report states.  Carney was also found to have tubing and a small scoop in his mouth, which was retrieved by an officer before the suspect could swallow it, and also contained a substance believed to be methamphetamine, the report states.

Carney was charged with evading arrest/detention, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 gram in a drug free zone.  He is being held in Brown County Jail on bonds totaling $60,000.

*7:57 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1900 block of Avenue E regarding the burglary of a vehicle.  According to the report, the complainant stated that an unknown suspect stole a GPS and a portable DVD player that was inside the vehicle.

*10:04 AM – Brown County Sheriff’s Office was advised that an intoxicated male identified as Adolfo was driving a small Ford pickup around the area of Northlake and waving a gun.  According to the report, a male identified as Adolfo Chavez-Diaz of May was arrested for public intoxication as a result of this call.

*10:40 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1100 block of Morris Lane regarding the burglary of a habitation.  According to the report, the complainant stated that unknown suspect(s) kicked in the back door of the residence and stole various items from the residence.

*12:21 PM – Brown County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a property on US Hwy 67W regarding a burglary of a building.  According to the report, an air compressor pump from a 60 gallon air compressor was stolen from a building on the property.

*1:19 PM – Brownwood Police were responded to the 1400 block of Avenue A regarding a domestic disturbance.  According to the report, the complainant advised that 53-year-old Linda Pearl Duffie was yelling and throwing things.  Contact was made with Duffie, who was found to be in possession of marijuana, the report states.  Duffie was arrested for possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.

*1:49PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Clark Street regarding a hit and run accident on the HPU campus.

*3:20 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Coggin Avenue regarding two males dressed in black walking into traffic and not allowing traffic to pass by, according to police reports.  The subjects were located at Durham Avenue and Avenue H and identified as 21-year-old Demory Wilson, Jr. and 18-year-old Trevolia Jaleel Rudd, the report states.  Both Wilson and Rudd each had two outstanding warrants for failure to appear related to possession marijuana less than 2 ounces in a drug free zone.  Rudd was additionally charged with possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.

*5:19 PM – Brownwood Police responded to the 1700 block of 7th Street regarding harassment.  According to the report, the complainant stated that he had received several phone calls and threatening messages from a telemarketer.  The incidents are under investigation.

*6:58 PM – During a cell search at the Brown County Jail, jailors found a spoon which had been fashioned into a shank on the table.  The only occupant of the cell was Javier Zamora, who was subsequently charged with deadly weapon in a penal institution.

*8:50 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Bluffview Drive regarding disorderly conduct.  According to the report, the complainant stated that an unknown suspect had threatened her with grievous bodily harm.

*9:40 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 2800 block of Coggin Avenue regarding a domestic disturbance.  According to the report, both parties claimed injuries but a dominant aggressor was not able to be determined.  The parties were separated according to the report.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office made a traffic stop which resulted in the arrest of Martin Venegas, Jr. for driving while license invalid with previous conviction.

*Brownwood Police arrested 45-year-old Raul Garcia Capuchin on a warrant related to a parole violation.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 38-year-old Cody Paul Cass for driving while intoxicated 3rd or more.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20-year-old Haustin Simmons on two warrants for failure to appear related to theft of property less than $1500 with two or more convictions and burglary of a building.
