The Brownwood Police Department and Brownwood Fire Department responded Wednesday evening to the report of several teenagers lighting fires in the roadway of Avenue D, just behind Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.

According to Fire Marshal Buddy Preston, two teens ages 13 and 15 were questioned and had conflicting stories.  Preston said that one of the teens stated that they had poured puddles of gas on the road and were lighting it and then riding their bicycles through the flames.  The other stated that they were pouring the gas on their bikes, lighting it and then riding around, stated Preston.

Preston warned the teens how dangerous their “stunts” were and asked where they got the idea.  The boys said they got this idea from watching videos on YouTube.  One of the teens participating in the fire stunts fled the scene before the fire department and officers arrived.

No injuries or damages were caused by the fires set by the boys, Preston said.
