TammieDrakeAccording to Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs, K9 Deputy James Stroope stopped a vehicle Sunday evening on Hwy 67 between Bangs and Brownwood for a traffic violation.

Grubbs said that during the course of the traffic stop, Deputy Stroope became suspicious of the two female occupants based on the stories they told the deputy.  While 51-year-old Tammie Drake was exiting the vehicle, Deputy Stroope observed Marijuana protruding from her pocket Grubbs said.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and no additional items were found at that time.  Investigator Jason Benefield responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Due to the downpour of rain, the vehicle and its occupants were transported to the jail for further investigation.  During the search of the vehicle, there was cause for Investigator Benefield to believe more marijuana had recently been in the vehicle; however it could not be located Grubbs said.    The second female was released without charges.  Tammie Drake was placed into the Brown County Jail on the charge of Possession of Marijuana under 2 ounces.

Investigator Benefield returned to the scene of the traffic stop and located a large zip lock bag containing more marijuana in the bar ditch.  Sheriff Grubbs stated that after more investigation, he expects that Drake and the other occupant will be charged with the Possession of Marijuana over 4 ounces but less than 5 pounds resulting from the marijuana which was located in the bar ditch.
