SinclairVirgilLeeEarly Police Chief David Mercer reported an arrest Sunday, February 27th by Early Police Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office and DPS of 60-year-old Virgil Lee Sinclair of Brownwood for Manufacturing/Delivery of Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana.  

According to Mercer, Sgt. Shawn Dibrell received information regarding an individual bringing a quantity of methamphetamine into Brown County to be distributed in the Brownwood and Early areas.  Dibrell contacted Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol and prepared to intercept the vehicle as it came into the area the report states.  

The vehicle, a 2000 Ford F150, was located and stopped for a traffic violation. The driver, Virgil Lee Sinclair of Lake Brownwood, was questioned about having illegal drugs in the vehicle Mercer said. Sinclair surrendered a baggie of marijuana from the vehicle. Officers along with the BCSO K-9 searched the vehicle and located a bag containing approximately 25 grams of methamphetamine the report states.  Officers also located baggies, scales and needles.  Sinclair was placed under arrest and taken to the Brown County Jail.

Friday, February 25

*3:50am-Brownwood Police were dispatched to a hit and run in the 100 block of Market Place Blvd.  According to the report, hotel staff reported that three guests’ vehicles had been struck by an unknown vehicle/person.  No suspect vehicle or information was located.

*10:17pm-A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy placed Martin Francis Augherton under arrest after he had repeatedly called the Law Enforcement Center using profanity without having an offense or complaint to report according to the sheriff’s office.  The deputy spoke to Augherton twice over the same issue and explained that if he called again without reason, he would be arrested.  When Augherton was told he was being arrested, he pulled his arm away from the deputy and toward his own waistline the report states.  The deputy believed that he was reaching for a weapon and performed a leg sweep placing Augherton into a position to be handcuffed according to the report.  Augherton sustained an injury to his nose while resisting arrest which was treated at the hospital before he was placed in jail the report states.  Augherton was determined to be intoxicated on all three encounters which likely contributed to his behavior, according to BCSO reports.

*11:51pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 700 block of Melwood regarding disorderly conduct.  According to police officials, a male subject was stabbed in his gluteus maximus during a fight.  The male was transported to the ER; however refused to provide police with any information regarding the incident the report states.  According to BPD, based on vehicle description, a female subject was located and identified in connection with the assault and a report was filed at BPD.  No arrest was made.

*11:58am-Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Bluffview regarding possible drug use.  According to the report, contact was made with the suspects who gave consent for officers to search the residence.  Officers discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia the report states.  Consequently the tenant, identified as 25-year-old Shayla Marie Oliver, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana less than 2oz.

*5:33pm-Brownwood Police responded to the 1500 block of Main Street regarding an accident that had occurred.  According to the report, a vehicle struck the wall of the overpass which caused the vehicle’s tire to have a blow out, and the vehicle was continuing on south on US Hwy 377 on the flat tire.  The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Yadira Vanessa Cerda, turned off through residential streets, eventually coming to a stop at a home in the 2600 block of Avenue D the report states.  The officer arrived to find Cerda had exited her vehicle and was stumbling toward the passenger side.  When the officer asked her why she did not stop when the accident occurred, she stated that she didn’t feel it was bad enough to stop according to police reports.  The officer noted the smell of alcohol on her breath and asked her if she had been drinking and if that was why she did not stop and she stated “yes” according to the report.  After failing sobriety tests, Cerda was consequently arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and for Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 29-year-old Miguel Angel Conejo for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Grade 1, equal to or greater than 1g, less than 4g.

Saturday, February 26

*12:14am-Brownwood Police responded to the 300 block of Bluffview regarding a possible reckless driver.  The officer made contact with a subject who failed sobriety tests and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, first offense.

*11:15am-Brownwood Police responded to a business on Austin Avenue to speak with a subject regarding an assault.  According to the report, the assault was determined to be a case of domestic violence which had occurred the previous day.  The victim was provided information about family violence and photos were taken of the victim’s bruises.

*A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a report of a car in a ditch on FM 1849.  The vehicle was found to be running and still in gear the report states.  The driver, later identified as  31-year-old Kevin Floyd Baker was asleep or passed out in the driver’s seat according to the report.  When the deputy opened the door of the vehicle, he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle.   Baker admitted to drinking the night before and after sobriety tests were performed, he was determined to be intoxicated according to the report.  Baker was transported to the ER for a blood specimen to be drawn.  Baker was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

*1:41pm-Brownwood Police spoke with a complainant regarding a theft.   According to the complainant, he wished to file charges on his daughter and ex-wife for identity theft.

*3:45pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 1500 block of Terrace regarding a burglary of a vehicle.  According to the report, an unknown subject stole a Bible, a Bible carrier and the complainant’s out of state identification card from her unsecured vehicle overnight.

*40-year-old Trey Lance McKeithan of Fort Worth was arrested for Possession of Marijuana less than 2 oz.

*Brownwood Police arrested 22-year-old Joseph Dewayne Snyder for Driving While Intoxicated.

Sunday, February 27

CooperJerryLeeJr*11:27am-Brownwood Police received a report of a theft of medication from a room at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  According to police reports, the complainant, a patient, reported that a known suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Jerry Lee Cooper, Jr., had stolen her prescription of Hydrocodone and that they had been arguing in her hospital room.   When police arrived, the complainant stated that the suspect who she knew had taken the keys to her vehicle without her permission the report states.  The complainant also informed police that Cooper had a warrant out for his arrest from Kentucky.  The officer confirmed this with dispatch and then searched for Cooper who was located in the parking lot of the hospital.  When the suspect saw the officer, he ran into the hospital, leading the officer on a foot chase through several departments in and near the ER the report states.  The officer lost sight of him and notified all BPD units of the subject fleeing.  ER staff told the officer that the suspect ran out the main doors of the ER.  The suspect was apprehended at a nearby office on Streckert Street after being tasered by officers.  Cooper was arrested for Evading Arrest and for the warrant from Kentucky for a parole violation.

*2:26pm-Brownwood Police responded to Sunset Terrace Apartments, in regards to a domestic disturbance where a male subject armed with a 9mm handgun was reportedly en route to an apartment there to do bodily harm to someone.  According to the report, the suspect’s vehicle was located at his home nearby.  The suspect had not gone to the apartment, but instead went home after having been in an argument with a brother-in-law at a family barbecue where the family had been drinking.  According to the suspect, he and his brother-in-law never have gotten along and the suspect reported he had left to avoid a confrontation.   As he was leaving, the brother-in-law punched him in the jaw and they began fighting the report states.  Family members separated the two and he left the report states.  The suspect stated that he carried a pistol in the glove box of his vehicle but that he kept the magazine and ammunition in his home, separate from the pistol.  The suspect gave permission for the officers to search his vehicle where they found the pistol in the glove box as he had stated; however they also found the magazine with several rounds of 9mm ammunition in the third row floorboard of the vehicle according to police.  The suspect was unable to provide a reason why the ammunition was found in the vehicle the report states.

*6:38pm-Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Bluffview regarding a report of theft.  According to police reports, further information provided at the scene led to an investigation of a burglary of a vehicle.

*11:53pm-Brownwood Police responded to the 1000 block of 2nd Street where juveniles were reported to be fighting in the street.  After speaking with a complainant, it was determined that an aggravated assault had occurred the report states. 

*11:48pm-A Brownwood Police officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle due to a traffic violation.   This stop led to the arrest of the driver, identified as 49-year-old Ravia Gaines McArthur who was found to be intoxicated after failing sobriety tests according to reports.  McArthur was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, 1st offense.

*Texas Parks and Wildlife arrested 29-year-old John Thomas Hopkins of Lometa for Possession of Marijuana, less than 2 oz.

All arrestees are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
