LECSmBrownwood Police were called to the 700 block of W. Commerce regarding a fist fight in the parking lot of Gomez Restaurant on Friday afternoon.  According to the report, on the officer’s arrival, the involved subjects were no longer on scene; however, the initial investigation determined that there were several subjects involved in a family fight.

According to witnesses, several male subjects were beating up on a lone subject who was taken by a privately owned vehicle to the hospital, the report states.  The witness stated that there were pipes used to assault the subject and officers were able to locate blood droplets and a pocket knife (which was open but did not have blood on it) in the parking lot, the report states.  Police made contact with the emergency room at Brownwood Regional Medical Center to ascertain if anyone had been admitted recently with injuries from a fight or other altercation.  According to the report, a male subject had been admitted after being in a “mutual combat” family fight and that he did not wish to pursue the matter further.

According to police, the investigation determined that the fight was allegedly related to a debt the victim owed another family member and that family members had allegedly assaulted the victim and then attempted to run him over with a vehicle.  The victim was reluctant to give details about the incident and was being treated for his injuries which were consistent to the witness’s account.

According to the report, at this time police believe that the altercation was over a loan that the victim owed another family member and that it began as a fist fight between the victim and three other males before it escalated where it involved pipes and a pocketknife.  Police also believe that the altercation led to a motor vehicle being used to strike the victim and that he was taken to the emergency room by the subjects that assaulted him, the report states.

Police are continuing the investigation.
