Brownwood Police responded to the report of suspicious activity in the 1100 block of Magnolia which led to the arrest of a man on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon late Friday night.
According to the report, BPD responded at approximately 11:18 p.m. to a report of a disturbance, where a caller had reported something suspicious near a residence in the 1100 block of Magnolia and that a subject had yelled out, “You cut my face.” Prior to officers’ arrival, several more 911 calls were received.
When officers arrived, it was discovered that a 35-year-old male and a 28-year-old male had been assaulted by a 32-year-old male with a single edged razor blade because they had confronted the suspect over money the suspect had allegedly stolen in an earlier drug transaction to purchase “speed” or methamphetamine. The suspect was identified as 32-year-old David Ray Bishop.
According to the report, the parties involved had varying accounts of what had occurred prior to officer’s arrival. The two victims were related and stated that Bishop owed one of them money, according to police reports. It was determined during the investigation that Bishop had used a single edged razor blade, the type used in box cutters, to cut one victim on his head and face and to lacerate the other victim’s face from immediately below the right eye, down the cheek and under his nose.
The victims were evaluated by Guardian EMS personnel who administered first aid, the report states. The first victim refused to be transported; however, the second victim was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center emergency room where doctors determined that his injury would require stitches and super glue to close the facial laceration.
Due to Bishop’s actions and the injuries received by both victims, Bishop was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, according to the officer’s report. Bishop was being held in the Brown County Jail in lieu of $60,000 bonds as of Monday morning.
