LECSmA traffic stop Wednesday night led to the arrest of a Brownwood woman and discovery of narcotics hidden in her clothing, according to Brown County Sheriff’s officials.

Deputy John Harper was driving in the 700 block of W. Commerce when he noticed a woman that he knew as an unlicensed driver get out of a car at a convenience store and later drive away.  Knowing that the driver possessed only an identification card, a traffic stop was made near the intersection of W. Austin Avenue and Beaver Street, Harper’s report states.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Brittany Dawn Turner, confirmed that she did not have a driver’s license and appeared to be very nervous and on the verge of crying, according to the deputy’s report.  Turner stated that she had gone to the store for a friend but that she did have insurance, and claimed that her chest hurt.  Dispatch informed Deputy Harper that Turner had a Texas identification card which was suspended for previous charges of no drivers license and no liability insurance, and Turner was subsequently arrested for driving while license suspended/no liability insurance.

According to the report, Turner consented to a search of her vehicle and person, which was completed by Early Police officer Michelle Sheedy with no findings.

Deputy Harper warned Turner twice that if she had possession of any illicit items including narcotics, she should inform him; however, upon a personal search at the Brown County Jail during booking, Turner was found to have packages containing methamphetamine hidden in the underwear crease of her right leg and one package fell to the floor as her clothing was removed, the report states.  An additional package stuck to her body as her bra was removed, bringing the total packages found to five, according to the report.  Four of the five were found to contain 1.7 grams of methamphetamine, the report states.

Turner was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance – drug free zone due to the traffic stop being within 1000 feet of a playground or public youth center.
