Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 4400 block of Westridge at approximately 8:43 p.m. on Friday, December 13th, regarding a civil matter that escalated into a criminal investigation and an arrest for criminal mischief.
According to the report, during the repossession of a Dodge Durango, the owner of the vehicle forcibly separated it from the tow truck.
The driver of the tow truck and manager of Panhandle Recovery Services stated that he was attempting to repossess the red Durango registered to 28-year-old Cortez Antonio Bowers, which was parked next to the residence. Bowers eventually removed one of the rear straps of the tow truck and tried once again to drive the Durango in an attempt to free it, and because one strap was still attached, this caused the front of the vehicle to strike a second vehicle parked in the Bower’s driveway, according to the report. With the vehicle still attached, Bowers began to drive it back and forth trying to free it from the tow truck until the remaining rear strap broke, releasing the Durango, the report states. Bowers then drove through his neighbor’s yard to gain access to the street and then fled the scene, according to the report. The responding officer reviewed video of the incident captured by the two truck driver’s wife along with several photos taken during the incident and determined that sufficient probable cause to believe that Bowers intentionally or knowingly damaged the tow truck, according to the officer’s report.
