LECSmBrownwood Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of 12th Street to the scene of a hit and run accident on Monday involving an extended cab pickup which left the roadway, struck a carport and the vehicle parked underneath it.

According to the report, the accident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m.  Witnesses on scene stated the driver, identified as a white male in his 30s, fled the scene on foot traveling northbound on Avenue M.

The vehicle was inventoried before it was removed from the yard and towed to another location, the report states.  According to police, the vehicle contained numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia along with baggies and scales, commonly used in drug distribution.  One of the baggies also field tested positive for trace amounts of methamphetamine and other items contained residue of marijuana.  Also located in the pickup was a shaped piece of wood that was altered to be used as a club and was positioned in the driver’s seat in a manner that it could be readily withdrawn for use, the report states.

Police checked the registration of the vehicle and were later able to locate the current owner who is suspected to have been involved in the accident, according to report.  Interviews with the suspect, witnesses and other people involved with the suspect resulted in differing accounts of what happened and the incident is pending further investigation according to the report.

 

The suspect was also found to have an extensive driving history of numerous convictions for failure to maintain financial responsibility and no driver’s license, according to police.

Monday, January 13

*10:35 AM – Brownwood Police responded to the 300 block of Bluffview Drive regarding theft.  The complainant stated that a subject had changed her pin number to her food stamp card and used over $200.00 worth of benefits and that she wished to file criminal charges, according to the report.

*2:05 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1400 block of Austin Avenue regarding theft.  According to the report, the store manager reported that an unknown suspect had shoplifted a six pack of beer on January 10th.

Tuesday, January 14

*9:44 AM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 3400 block of US Hwy 377 South regarding theft.  According to the report, an employee advised police that an unknown suspect had filled up their vehicle with over 53 gallons fuel and drove away without paying.  The loss was a total of $200.10 to the convenience store, the report states.

*11:23 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1200 block of Looney Street, Cato’s, regarding theft.  According to the report, a store employee advised officers that a customer had stolen items from the store.  During an investigation it was determined that 27-year-old Jessica Lee Ann Walston had taken items from the store’s clothing racks, removed the security devices and hidden them in her purse on her person, the report states.  Walston was subsequently arrested for theft of property equal or greater than $50 less than $500.

*3:15 PM – Brownwood Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart regarding a hit and run.  According to the report, the complainant stated that she had been struck by another vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot earlier the day, at approximately 1:30 p.m.  The complainant spoke with the driver but did not have any information for him, the report states.  When the complainant returned home, she told her husband what had happened and he brought her to the Law Enforcement Center to file a report.  Due to the driver speaking very limited English, communication for the report was difficult.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Eric Edward Babcock of Bangs on a warrant for motion to revoke/driving while intoxicated.

*Early Police arrested 39-year-old Sergio Efraim Castillo on a warrant for duty on striking fixture/highway landscape.

*35-year-old Francisco Antonio Chavez turned himself in on a warrant for cruelty to livestock animals.

*The Brownwood City Marshal arrested 44-year-old Vicente Contreras Frausto of Santa Anna for open container – passenger.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34-year-old Jason Preston Gross of Huntsville for assault family violence/house member impede breath.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24-year-old Christopher David Guerra of Austin on warrants for motion to revoke/criminal mischief and motion to revoke/aggravated assault with deadly weapon.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested Vicente Narvaez, Jr. of Comanche on a warrant for motion to revoke/aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

*Early Police arrested 27-year-old Jeffery Whitehead of Early on a Mills County warrant for fail to pay child support.
