Bangs Police responded to a call of theft at the Bangs Volunteer Fire Department Saturday morning. According to Bangs Chief of Police Troy Gruesendorf, two men were seen taking a loose vehicle axle from the Bangs Volunteer Fire Station property.
The fire chief called the Bangs Police to report the incident; however, when Chief Gruesendorf arrived, the suspects had left with the stolen axle, said Gruesendorf. Knowing that the men would probably attempt to sell the axle as scrap metal, Gruesendorf stated that he contacted Brownwood Police, who assisted him in staking out local recycling companies in an effort to catch the suspects if they were to quickly try to turn the stolen property.
A short time later, Brownwood Police Sergeant Troy Carroll was at Highway Scrap Metal in Brownwood when the suspects arrived with the axle. He and two other Brownwood Police officers detained the suspects until Gruesendorf arrived.
The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Jett Louis Miller and Trevor D. Morse, both of Brownwood, who were arrested by Gruesendorf and charged with theft of property greater than $1500 less than or equal to $20,000. Both men were being held in the Brown County Jail as of Monday afternoon; Morse is held in lieu of $7500 bond and Miller in lieu of $10,000 bond.
