HartTaylorA traffic stop led Brownwood Police officers on a foot chase early Friday morning and resulted in eventual arrest of a man on multiple charges.

A Brownwood Police officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding around midnight Friday morning in the 200 block of E. Commerce.  According to the report, the officer issued the driver, 21-year-old Taylor David Hart of Zephyr, a citation for driving a speed of 60 mph in a 35 mph posted zone and determined Hart was intoxicated.

Hart told the officer that he and passenger, 23-year-old Flavio Hernandez, Jr. (also of Zephyr), were coming from Duke’s Pub and Grub and that “he did not need any trouble and that he could have a sober driver come pick them up,” the report states.   Hart also told the officer that he was in the process of having his probation revoked and that he was probably going to prison for a previous offense, according to the report.

After Hart failed standardized field sobriety test, he was determined to be intoxicated, and when the officer began putting handcuffs on him, Hart jerked away from the officer and began running toward a wooded area behind the Budget Inn, the report states.  Hart’s description and direction of travel were radioed to other officers who began searching the area.  Meanwhile, the passenger, Hernandez was also found to be intoxicated and was arrested for Public Intoxication and transported to the Brown County Jail, according to police.

The search continued until approximately 2:00am Friday morning when another Brownwood Police officer found Hart in the parking lot of the Budget Inn located at 515 E. Commerce.  Hart was taken into custody at that time without further incident.  According to the report, his clothing was completely wet and he complained that he was extremely cold, advising officers that he had been submerged in the water of the Pecan Bayou hiding from officers for a lengthy period of time.

Hart was arrested and read his Miranda Warning.  He refused to voluntarily provide a sample of blood; however he was taken to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center where a warrant was issued, a DWI blood draw was performed and Hart was treated for possible hypothermia, the report states.

Hart is currently being held at the Brown County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated 1st and evading arrest on foot.  As of Friday morning, no bail amount had been set.
