*Brown County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a continuing mystery of 18 missing cattle as well as 15 head of cattle that have appeared with no known owner.

A Brown County deputy had originally responded to the 15 estray cattle which were put on a neighboring 500+ acre ranch until their owner could be determined.  All area cattle owners have been contacted and no owner has been located at the time of the report.  These cattle are 14 Angus cows and 1 Brangus cow which have a frying pan brand and yellow ear tags.  On Thursday morning, the ranch employee went to feed other cattle that belong to the ranch and discovered they were missing.  After looking all over the property, he did not find the ranch’s cattle; however the estray cattle were still present.  The stolen/missing cattle are mixed breed, some being red and others being black in color.  These have yellow ear tags with a Rafter R hand-written on them.  They have no brands on them.

All neighboring properties have been checked and there are no signs of the cattle and no broken or damaged fencing the cattle could have escaped through the sheriff’s report states.  The complainant showed the deputy where the lock had been damaged and tire tracks could be seen near the gate.  There are no suspects at the time of the report and deputies are investigating the missing cattle as well as seeking the owners of the others.
