Brownwood Police responded to a suspicious call which led to the arrest of a male subject on several charges including aggravated assault and burglary of a vehicle.
According to the report, a Brownwood police officer arrived to find a male subject standing near a vehicle in the roadway yelling at some individuals at a residence near the corner of Avenue C and 6th Street. One of the individuals stated to the officer, “get him!”, “that’s not his car”, and “he threatened me with a knife,” the report states.
According to police, when officers attempted to approach the male, later identified as 21-year-old Brandon Wayne White, they noticed he had a tire iron in his hand. The suspect turned and walked past the officer’s patrol car and ignored commands from the officer to stop, the report states. The officer followed behind White after he dropped the tire iron and began running. After losing the suspect for a short while, the officer doubled back and found him in a vacant lot hiding behind a prickly pear cactus near a residence the report states. As the officer attempted to secure White in handcuffs, he resisted arrest multiple times, used a large amount of profanity and failed to identify himself, the report states. Eventually, the officer was able to secure him in a wrist lock and escort him to the patrol car where White beat his head on the trunk and was placed into an arm bar so that the officer could search him for weapons. After being placed into the patrol car, the suspect attempted to spit on the officer and break out the Plexiglas divider which separates the front and rear compartments of the car, according to the report. White taunted officers by yelling “Taze me, mace me,” according to the report. However, the officer stated that he didn’t want to do either of these, just wanted White to quit trying to destroy government property. White was sprayed with OC spray in order to keep him from hurting himself or destroying property, the report states. His disposition changed to weeping and blubbering after being sprayed, according to the report, and officers were then able to continue their investigation and found the knife White used to threaten the female victim on the driver’s seat of the vehicle he had burglarized. White stated that he had not ingested any drugs other than alcohol.
White was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary of a vehicle, evading arrest/detention, resisting arrest and failure to identify.
The officer retrieved a ball cap and lighter that White had dropped during the foot chase, which were secured as White’s property at the Brown County Jail.
