On Tuesday, October 5th, Early Police received a request for a welfare check from Child Protective Services regarding a baby in a motel room where adults were using drugs.  The CPS report indicated that the child had been burned after touching a hot Meth Pipe.

Police said that as Officer Keith Varner and Sgt Shawn Dibrell arrived on the scene, a male subject walked out of a motel room who was identified as 45-year-old Daryl Glenn Reed of Brownwood.  Reed was detained by officers as they checked the motel room where they located 33-year-old Tanya Jean Miller and a 16-month-old baby.

Reed was checked and found to have a warrant from the State of Texas for a parole violation.  Reed told police that he had an ankle monitor on, but cut it off and had a friend drop it off to his parole officer.

Police said that both individuals were questioned and both admitted to smoking “crack” cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana during the night while the baby was in the room.  The baby, which did not have a burn on it and appeared to be in good condition, was turned over to CPS and later to a family member.

Police said that officers checked the room and located drug paraphernalia and heavy trace amounts of cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana.

Daryl Reed and Tanya Miller were each charged with 2 counts of Possession of Controlled Substance in a Drug Free Zone and Endangering a Child.  Reed was also charged with a parole violation warrant.
