*1:23 PM – A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy while on patrol noticed a pickup truck cross the center lane and continue driving north in the southbound lane of Hwy 377 South. According to the report, the deputy had to swerve out of the way to keep from getting struck by the vehicle. The deputy turned on his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to make a traffic stop; however, the vehicle continued to drive in the wrong lane causing other vehicles to have to swerve to miss a collision, and it almost caused an accident as it ran a red light at the traffic signal at Hwy 377 South and Crockett Drive, the report states. The vehicle came to a stop at the Allsup’s located on Hwy 377 where the deputy made contact with the driver. While the deputy was speaking with the driver, identified as 21-year-old Davey Lee Cox of Early, he appeared confused and asked what was happening, according to the report. When the deputy asked Cox if he had fallen asleep or if there was something wrong, he acted as if nothing had occurred, the report states. During a search of the vehicle, the deputy located a 7 ounce can of Dust Off duster, which the deputy through his training knew was often used an inhalant to get high, the deputy’s report states. The duster can was still cool to the touch and had condensation on it, which indicated recent use.
