SheriffandchiefsdrugpressconfLaw Enforcement officers from numerous agencies began executing arrest and search warrants early Thursday morning in various locations throughout Brownwood and Brown County.  Officers began serving about 45 indictments charging 24 defendants for Engaging in Organized Crime for trafficking methamphetamine. As of Thursday afternoon, law enforcement arrested all of the suspects plus 3 additional suspects who were found at various locations with drugs while officers served the indictments making a total of 27 arrests so far during this drug round-up.

During a press briefing Thursday afternoon, Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs said that they hope these arrests make a difference in the drug trafficking in the area.

“I think most of these (suspects) are going to be higher level narcotic traffickers in this area,” Grubbs said.  “These charges will impact them enough that we will make a pretty good dent in them I hope.”

All of the suspects were arrested without incident.  Grubbs also said that additional arrests may be made.

Due to the nature of the ongoing investigation, law enforcement is not releasing further information at this time.

Over a year ago, the West Central Texas Inter-local Crime Task Force (WCTICTF) launched an investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in the Brown County area. The WCTICTF focused on prison gang members who were engaged in a wide range of criminal activity that was fueled by methamphetamine usage and by methamphetamine trafficking.  WCTICTF, the lead agency, worked closely with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Brownwood Police Department, Early Police Department and the Brown County District Attorney’s Office.  WCTICTF also received assistance from state and federal agencies; Texas Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshal’s Service, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This investigation will remain ongoing as additional information is developed concerning this criminal organization.
