Funeral services for LaVerne “Vernie” Gribble will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, in the Austin Avenue Church of Christ with J. Tom Washburn officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
LaVerne passed from this life on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
LaVerne was born on September 29, 1932 on Owl Creek at The Grove, Texas. She graduated from Temple High School and married Bill Gribble on June 11, 1955. LaVerne and Bill moved to Brownwood in 1963 at which time they purchased an interest in Pecan Valley Electric Co. As time went on, they bought full ownership in the company and LaVerne served as president. She was also active in the community with memberships in The Woman’s Club, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and as a board member of the Brown County Youth Fair Association. She was also a longtime member of the Austin Avenue Church of Christ.
LaVerne is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Bill Gribble of Lake Brownwood, a daughter, Julie Gribble of Brownwood, a brother, Raymond Zuehlke of Brenham and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Charlie, Lewis, and Bill Zuehlke.
