hpusoccerlogoThe Howard Payne University men’s soccer team loses 4-3 to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in the first round of the American Southwest Conference tournament. Four of the seven goals were scored in the last five minutes of the game.

The Jackets went up 2-0 with goals in the 13th and 17th minutes from Chris Thompson and Chris Martinez.

UMHB would answer back though and tie the game with a goal in the last minute before the first half and another in the 85th minute, tying the game at 2.

HPU would answer back just a minute later in the 86th minute off a corner kick from Reese Lawson that found Paul Deets in the box to take the late 3-2 lead.
Two minutes later, the Cru of UMHB tied the game and took the lead with two goals only separated by 30 seconds, in the 88th minute, for the 4-3 win.

HPU had four shots on goal on 12 total shots. UMHB had 13 shots on goal on 27 shots. Fouls were HPU 13, UMHB 11. UMHB dominated corners with 13 corner kicks to HPU’s 2.

HPU Goal Keeper, Malcolm Framjee had 9 saves on the day. UMHB Keeper, Mark Miller had 1.

The Jackets finish their season with a 12-5-1 record overall, the most wins in program history.
