CLARKSVILLE, Ark – The University of the Ozarks hit a jumper in the lane with one second remaining to upset Howard Payne University 65-63 in American Southwest Conference action Monday evening.
Howard Payne led the entire first half. After leading by as much nine midway in the half, the Lady Jackets held a 38-35 halftime advantage.
Ozarks took their first lead of the game 49-46 with 12:50 left. HPU regained the lead and pushed it to six, 63-57 with 3:05 left in the game.
From there Ozarks scored eight unanswered points and won on a jumper in the lane by Sabrina Goddard with :01 remaining.
Tiffany Warner led HPU with 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting from behind the arc. She also dished out five assists. Clarissa Krum had a game high nine rebounds with four assists. Brittany Roberson, Jasmin Thomas, and Kalin Hanna all finished with 10 points each.
Ozark’s Sabrina Goddard finished with a game high 34 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Ally Goddard added eight assists.
The win was the first for Ozarks over Howard Payne since January 4th of 2003. Howard Payne now stands at 2-2 overall and 0-2 in American Southwest Conference play. Ozarks in now at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in ASC action.
Howard Payne will play next at home against Louisiana College on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
