A graveside funeral service for Larry Potter, age 72 of Lake Brownwood, formerly of Odessa, will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.  A celebration of Larry’s life will follow at 6:30 Tuesday evening at Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa.

Larry passed from this life on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in Dallas.

Larry Dwayne Potter was born on October 19, 1944 in Santa Anna.  He married Carol Forest on June 15, 1964.  Larry owned and operated Larry’s Specialty Meats in Odessa since 1975.  He was a member of the May First Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa.

Larry loved life, laughter, his family and God.  He brought joy and laughter to everyone he met.  Most importantly he was a man of integrity.  He would stop everything and pray for people on the spot, whether that was at the cash register of the meat market, kneeling at a car door in the parking lot, or over a nurse from his hospital bed.  He adored his family and was quick to tell you that the best job he ever had was being a grandpa.  He was so good at it that God promoted him to being a great-grandpa.  Larry fought the good fight and when it was time to cross the finish line, his eyes lit up and he was rejoicing because Jesus was coming to take him home.  It is well with our souls!

Larry is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Carol Potter of Lake Brownwood, two children, Dwayne Potter and wife Stephanie and Dawn and husband Todd Kelly; grandchildren, Danylle and Preston Jordan, Deven Hale, Trey Potter, Dara Hale, Rafe Potter, Matt Potter, and Emmalie Potter; great-grandchildren, Dawson Benton, Gunner Hale and Beau Jordan; his brothers, Brooks, Dan, Keith and Marv Potter, that he loved dearly.
